69 (六九 roku kyū) is the numbers 6 and 9 combined, its Japanese pronunciation sounding like "rokku", thus being used as a wordplay for Rockman (ロックマン Rokkuman, Mega Man). Also, fans consider June 9 (6/9) the day of the Rockman franchise due to this.[1] The number is used in some official Rockman related content:
- June 9 is the day the story of Mega Man 2 starts.[2]
- 69 is the number in the license plate from the Support Car.
- Mr. Famous has a record of 69 consecutive NetBattle wins.
- In Mega Man X DiVE, players were given 690 Element Metals on December 17, 2020 to celebrate the anniversary of the series. The game also used the number other times.
- The sell price of the Powered Buster in Power Stone 2 is 69,000.
- 69 is the number in Rock's shirt in the Rockman 4 manga. Rock wears a similar shirt in the Rockman manga, but the numbers appear inversed (as "69" and "96") in most panels.
- 69 is used several times in a parody by Sakura in Secret File #18.
- The artist Mami Kunimoto and art director/planner Yasuyuki Makino were responsible for creating the concept for celebrating Mega Man x Route 69 Retro Style merchandise.[3]
