Doctor Albert Wily is an antagonist in the Mega Man: Fully Charged comic book series. He is the grandfather of Bert Wily and is the authority on the Hard Age in Silicon City.
Overview[]
In contrast to his video game counterpart, who mostly treats robots as tools for him to use though occasionally showing a true care for them, this version of Wily is portrayed as feeling that robots are meant to take over the earth from humans and they are a superior species, calling himself a fan and disciple of robot-kind and wishing to be master’s servant to them, and feels that Mega Man is meant to be their leader. He is shown to be cunning and possibly manipulative as he tries to get Aki to take lead of the Robot Masters and turn on Dr. Light.
He is shown to have paranoid traits to him, as his home has security system that goes off when the building it is touched that activates several hidden automated turrets that shoot at intruders.
History[]
Wily is first seen on a news article Suna Light shows Aki Light stating he is hosting a lecture on the Hard Age at Silicon City University. Mega Man: Fully Charged (BOOM! Studios) Issue 1
He debuts holding that lecture that Aki, Suna, and Namagem attend. He states that the first Hard Age should not be seen as a “civil war” as claimed by society, as a civil war is between two groups of humans, but as an act of achieving independence for robot-kind, who were merely seen as tools 20 years ago, and that the Robot Masters seek something else entirely before the stage explodes behind him, causing everyone to evacuate.
Later, when Mega Man attempts to visit him at his home, he is attacked by several turrets coming up from the ground. Wily watches him from the door and claims he would have disabled the system, but he sleeps through anything lately. He invites Aki inside and Aki asks him why the Robot Masters would target him. Wily replies that they target him because he is a human that claims to be an authority on robots not unlike Dr. Light. Aki asks him what he knows about Light, and Wily states that Light has no business being a diplomat for peace to the Robot Masters given his service record during the Hard Age, and that Skull Man would not negotiate with him nor any other human. He tells Aki that while Skull Man is a mysterious fanatic, he is not necessarily wrong. He goes on to tell Aki that he is a fan and a disciple of robot-kind and that humanity’s last and greatest contribution to the planet is creating a superior species than itself. He says that Light may promote unity for robots, but inside he is actually terrified of the inevitable: that mankind will one day serve robots, and states that he wants to be “master’s servant”. Aki sarcastically calls him noble, to which Wily replies that nobility has nothing to do with it, and that mechanical beings require mechanical minds, and despite being human, he is still a first class engineer. He reiterates that the Robot Masters aren’t wrong, but their execution is wrong, and that Skull Man is a warlord not a leader and that Mega Man should lead them. Mega Man states that his loyalty is to Silicon City, human and robot alike, and Wily says that his loyalty is to Mega Man, and offers to upgrade him to his maximum potential to allow him to run multiple sets at once for as long as he needs, and that the first step is restoring his onboard mechanic, which he inferred was gone given Mega Man’s targeting abilities.
