Bar Waying (バーウェイン Bāwein) is a shutter barrier enemy in Mega Man X2, Mega Man Xtreme and Mega Man Xtreme 2. They appear on the Opening Stage on both Mega Man X2 and Mega Man Xtreme 2, but also briefly on Flame Stag's stage, Volcanic Zone.

Their barrier only blocks the way and does not inflict any damage on the player. However, if the player gets smashed by them while they're closing, they are able to deal minimal damage.

They can be passed under before they close, or they can be easily destroyed by either Silk Shot or Magnet Mine, but Spin Wheel is also a relevant option. As in the Volcanic Zone they need to be quickly destroyed, the Spin Wheel is the least recommended weakness since it takes two hits to destroy them - what changes on its charged version.

Bar Wayings also appear in Mega Man X DiVE.

Drill Waying[]

Drill Waying (ドリルウェイン Doriru Wein) is an improvement of the Bar Waying, found in Mega Man X3. It tends to drill upward and then spiral its head back down. The head is the weakness, and like with Bar Waying, it must be destroyed in order for X to pass. These show up in Tunnel Rhino and Neon Tiger's stages and Dr. Doppler's Laboratory Stage 1. It also appears in Mega Man Xtreme 2, where its head moves up and down and can shoot. In X3, the Frost Shield and Triad Thunder take it out in one hit.

Other media[]

A Bar Waying appears on the variant cover of Mega Man #40.

Drill Wayings appear in the Rockman X3 manga alongside HelitsEarth CommandersNotor Bangers, and other X3 Maverick minions, during the attack on the Maverick Hunter Base. One is also seen facing off against Neon Tiger, Tunnel Rhino, Blizzard BuffaloVolt Catfish, and Blast Hornet.
