Bass XX (Double X) [1], known as Forte XX (フォルテXX (ダブルエックス)) in Japan, is a superboss in Mega Man Battle Network 4, 5 and Rockman.EXE Legend of Network and a playable character in Mega Man X DiVE.

He is a form the NetNavi Bass.EXE takes. The XX stands for unknown like in 20XX, meaning Bass has obtained unknown power.[2] He is usually seen with the gold accents on Bass' body have turned violet and his cloak has become darker.

Game history[]

Mega Man Battle Network 4[]

Bass XX is a secret boss that will only appear when specific conditions are fulfilled.

  • In the Wii U Virtual Console version of the game, as Mod Cards are inaccessible, he can be fought through a Title Screen button input. Press Left, L Button, and Start on the title screen, until the game is reset, Bass XX will replace Bass Ω. [3]

Mega Man Battle Network 5[]

Bass XX is a secret boss that will only appear when specific conditions are fulfilled. He also has his own Mod Card separate from the normal Bass, it gives HP+400, Float Shoes, Air Shoes, start with Barrier 200, but gives an HP Bug during battle.

  • In the GBA version of the game: If MegaMan is equipped with Mod Cards, Bass XX will replace the Bass Ω random encounter in Nebula Area 6.
  • In the Wii U Virtual Console version of the GBA game, entering the Communications menu will unlock the Bass Cross MegaMan form. As it's a Mod Card, it fulfills the condition to make Bass XX appear.
  • In the Nintendo DS version of the game: The player must insert in the GBA slot and register all numbered Mega Man Battle Network titles from that region, then have MegaMan be in Bass Cross MegaMan or Sol Cross MegaMan form. Bass XX will now appear.

Abilities[]

BassXXSprite

Bass XX using Chaos Nightmare

Bass XX wields the same techniques as the normal Bass but deals greater damage and has a brand new regenerating barrier ability.

  • Bass has phantom movements. When Bass moves, he'll leave a trail and can only be hit while standing still.
  • Black Barrier (BlakBarr) (ブラックバリア Burakku Baria)[4][5]: Exclusively to Bass XX, a special dark barrier that will absorb up to 150 (BN4)/200 (BN5) points of damage total before dispersing. After some time it will regenerate. (This is not an aura and is also placed in front of Bass as opposed to coating him all-around).
    • In Battle Network 4, it will spawn as soon as he moves. Using North Wind will only remove it momentarily.
    • In Battle Network 5, it will spawn as he's about to launch his first attack. It can be instantly removed for a long period by Barrier Delete effects like North Wind and Tornado Arm.
  • Shooting Buster (シューティングバスター Shūtingu Basutā):
Bass' busters rake his opponent's field with machine-gun fire, striking random patterns of two panels at once.
  • Helz Rolling [6] [7] (ヘルズローリング Heruzu Rōringu, Hell's Rolling):
Bass charges dark power in his hands and then unleashes a series of black wheels that travel along the rows above and below him, changing direction to arc towards his target.
  • Dark Arm Blade (ダークアームブレード Dāku Āmu Burēdo):
Bass will warp in front of his target and strike with a blade made of dark power. If this attack hits, he will warp and strike again from behind, and then again from the front. Attacks from the front have Long Sword range, while an attack from behind has Wide Sword range.
  • Darkness Overload (ダークネスオーバーロード Dākunesu Ōbārōdo):
Bass gathers energy on both hands and rushes into the center of the opponent's front column, unleashing a massive blast of dark power across the back two columns, cracking every panel the attack touches. If the player is standing on the same panel he is, they will still take collision damage.
  • Chaos Nightmare (カオスナイトメア Kaosu Naitomea):
Battle Network 5 only. Bass rises high above the field and creates a growing giant sphere of dark power on one of his hands before casting it down on his opponent. This attack hits the target's original location and every panel surrounding it; it pierces invisibility and cracks all panels in the impact area. This is also Chaos Lord's Battle Chip.

Trivia[]

  • Although special modifications to MegaMan must be active to encounter the Bass XX fight, there is a way to fight him as unmodified MegaMan. By using the LocEnemy Sub Chip, it will guarantee his chance of reappearing, modifications can now be turned off, and then unmodified MegaMan can fight Bass XX.
  • If the LocEnemy Sub Chip is used on Bass Ω and the conditions to unlock Bass XX are fulfilled afterwards, it will not change the targeted Bass Ω battle. Bass XX must be encountered randomly without any previous set-up.
  • In Mega Man Battle Network 4, Bass XX has miscolored purple parts in his phantom movement sprites, this was fixed in the Battle Network 5.
  • Bass XX remains in the game data for Rockman EXE 4.5 Real Operation, but is not fightable in the final game, to the irony of the remix album's narration.
  • If the Battle Network 4 Wii U version has the Mod Cards screen unlocked through other means; it reveals that Title Screen button input fills in the menu with a dummy Mod Card slot, meeting the condition to unlock Bass XX.

  • In Battle Network 6's game data, a BassXX enemy name exists, but it is incomplete and unused in the final game. It has 2,700 HP.
