- ―Stage description, Mega Man X4
Bio Laboratory (バイオラボラトリー) is Split Mushroom's stage in Mega Man X4. It is an old biological laboratory that is overrun with mechanical plants.
Description[]
Bio Laboratory Area 1[]

Bio Laboratory's stage icon
The first half of the stage is divided in three sections. The first section is a pristine, giant spiral staircase with an array of enemies and a teleporter on the end of the section. The second section has a few platforms with death pits at the beginning and some ladders to reach the top. Along the way there are Tentoroids BS which are indestructible and will attempt to crush X/Zero. After reaching the top, the final section of the area has a few platforms and a fight with the Tentoroid sub-boss. After destroying it, one can reach the end of the stage area.
Bio Laboratory Area 2[]
The second half of the stage is also divided in three sections. The first section is also a giant spiral staircase, however, with more aggressive enemies placement and a Death Guardian chasing X/Zero from behind. The second section has Tentoroids BS destroying sections of the stage. A Life Up can be seen right away, which can be reachable by using the falling roof of that part of the stage as a platform to reach the top or by using Lightning Web with X / Kuuenbu with Zero. Dashing through the falling platforms is the most recommended approach as one has the risk of getting crushed or falling alongside the platforms. The third section is a giant elevator with a blue variant of Togerics attempting to smash the player with the lenght of their root and firing shots and bombs. After a while, a few platforms will appear, which will crush X/Zero if they are not careful. Split Mushroom is on top of this section.

Rockman X4 manga[]

The Bio Laboratory.
The Bio Laboratory made an appearance in Issue 5 of the manga, "Conviction". It is an old biological laboratory with a lethal defense system that has suddenly activated again after being idle, and X goes there to investigate. X makes a mad dash up the tall winding stairs of the laboratory and destroys a Death Guardian Mechaniloid in his way and then reaches the top of the stairs.
X enters a room and is searching for the Boss in charge of the laboratory, and finds that he has been locked inside with hard glass panes covering all four sides. He angrily wonders whether the Maverick in charge is trying to buy time or simply capture him alive, for a battle to the death. Suddenly, a Tentoroid crashes up from the floor and injures X by piercing him on his right side. The Tentoroid then shrugs off X's buster attacks while X clings to the hole in the ground after almost falling in. X then unleashes a barrage of Buster blasts all while confidently shouting that he won't lose, and the Tentoroid finally explodes from X's attacks.
The explosion sends X to the roof of the laboratory, where he finds Split Mushroom standing at the top of the laboratory's roof tower. In order to reach Mushroom, X blasts out multiple Lightning Web shots to hop on and then confronts Mushroom. X is shocked by Mushroom's childish demeanor as the latter asks X to play with him for a bit in a fight. Mushroom unleashes a swarm of Soul Body clones and has them attack X, while declaring he will not be friends with weak people. X realizes that Mushroom is malfunctioning and doesn't know the difference between good and evil. X agrees to fight Mushroom and says that if he wins, Mushroom must listen to him.
X fires a well-aimed Buster shot at Mushroom's head, which disables his circuitry and stuns him. X is happy that he was able to stop Mushroom without killing him. Before X can repair Mushroom, a lightning-fast yellow Maverick appears behind them and impales Mushroom through the chest with his wrist saber. The Maverick then leaps to the roof of the laboratory. X follows him up there and demands the mysterious attacker to let Mushroom go. Instead, the Maverick kills Mushroom by chopping him into little pieces, only telling X that he won't do the same to him because he doesn't have orders to yet. He promises that when the time comes, he will kill X by chopping him up like a catfish. Mushroom's body explodes, and the yellow Maverick vanishes into the night.
