"Ssyaaaaah! Get ready for Blazin' Flizard, one of Weil's Numbers! Let's heat it up, Zerrroooo!!!"
―Blazin' Flizard, Mega Man Zero 3

Blazin' Flizard (ブレイジン・フリザード Bureijin Furizādo) is a boss in Mega Man Zero 3. He is a Mutos Reploid based on the frill-necked lizard, and was once the Left Flame Judge (左炎審官 Saen Shinkan) of the Eight Gentle Judges.[2][3]

Characteristics[]

In his Judge form, Flizard is a humanoid of average height with dreadlocks who wears a white cape. In his Punishment form, he is a hunched-over red lizard with five panels that form a frill around his neck. His fingers are flamethrowers, and his tail is forked with a cannon at the end. His frill panels as well as his knees also contain flamethrowers.

During his time on the Council, Blazin' Flizard had an honest and serious personality. He had a strained relationship with Childre Inarabitta, possibly clashing with Childre's immaturity. As a member of Weil's Numbers, he became loyal to Weil like other members and gained an enthusiastic passion for battle, yelling excitedly and making his "Ssyaaaaah!" battlecry to mimic fire and steam.

History[]

Before becoming one of the Eight Gentle Judges, Blazin' Flizard was designed as the manager of a geothermal power plant.[4] Flizard was then recruited as the Left Flame Judge, participating in the Screaming Interrogation trials. However, when Dr. Weil returned, Flizard was brainwashed and remodeled as one of his personal enforcers in the Weil Numbers.

Flizard administrated a geothermal plant at the Aegis Volcano Base, which secretly held a gigantic missile that would later be used to transport Omega to the Dark Elf. He quickly got bored, claiming to be seeking a worthy opponent, and fought Zero in the control room. He was destroyed by Zero, defiantly claiming Lord Weil would burn the entire world one way or another.

Flizard was resurrected in Weil's Research Laboratory for a rematch. He was excited for Weil's new world, but was still destroyed.

Strategy[]

Flizard attacks with a flamethrower, three small spheres that set fire in the floor, and throwing his frill as a boomerang. By destroying his tail, he will be unable to use one of his attacks. If the player has S or A rank, he will shoot fire from his head in several directions. Defeating him will give Zero the Fire Body chip, and if the player is at A or S Rank, the Burst Shot ability, which is a variant of Flizard's three sphere attack.

Flizard's tail can be cut off with a Z Saber or Shield Boomerang attack from behind, which stops him from using "Tail Flame". However, the tail itself remains on the floor, causing contact damage if touched.

Chain Burner Chain Burner Damage: 3
Flizard releases a waving stream of flame from his flamethrower.
Tail Flame Tail Flame Damage: 3
Flizard fires three small incendiary spheres that light on fire on contact with surface.
Tail Whip Tail Whip Damage: 3
If Flizard's tail is cut off, it will slowly crawl towards him. After that the tail disappears, and Flizard regrows it shortly after.

While the tail is cut off, Flizard is unable to use "Tail Flame".
Touching the tail couses contact damage.

Frill Boomerang Frill Boomerang Damage: 4
Flizard detaches and throws his frill, that ricochets off surfaces until it returns back to him.
Fear Sprinkler EX Skill: Fear Sprinkler (フィアスプリンクラー) Damage: 4
Flizard jumps to the center of the room and fires multiple fireballs from his spinning frill in a set pattern.

The pattern is released clockwise if Zero is on the left side of the room, and counterclockwise if he's on the right side.
Attacking Flizard with an Electric-based attack stops the attack.

Etymology[]

  • Blazin' Flizard's first name is a contraction of the word "blazing", while his second name is a contraction of "frill-necked lizard". His second name may also be a portmanteau of "flaming lizard".

Trivia[]

  • Blazin' Flizard, though most heavily based on the frill-necked lizard, may also be inspired by cultural depictions of salamanders as lizard-like amphibians born from and aligned with the element of fire.
  • Many of Blazin' Flizard's titles, regardless of translation, include the term "mandala" (Which translates to "Circle"). A mandala is a "Geometric configuration of symbols"[5], used in Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Shinto religions. The term likely refers to the frills on Blazin' Flizard's neck, as they are geometric shapes which come together to form a circle.
