"Stupid Epsilon! Stupid Rebellion! Everything is for some dumb "ideal"! It's all a fancy pipe dream! The ends justify the means, and the one with the power wins in the end!"
―Botos, Mega Man X: Command Mission

Botos, known as Borock (ボロック Borokku) in Japan, is a boss from Mega Man X: Command Mission. While he is a high-ranking Cadre in the Rebellion Army, he is merely using the position to further his own goals.

Characteristics[]

Botos is a bulbous Reploid with a spherical body and stubby legs. His armor is largely dark green with yellow highlights, such as a belt around his waist. His helmet covers most of his head save for his mouth, and a dark visor covers his eyes. He has a tuning fork on his head, a golden half-ring structure on his shoulders, and two thrusters called Gyro Burners on either side of his waist.[1]

Botos is a loud-mouthed and crass Reploid. While he holds his tongue around Epsilon and the Cadre, he truly cares little for the Rebellion's cause and only wants power, believing it to be all that matters in the world. He had no qualms with harming his own comrades in order to gain Supra-Force Metal, and even insulted Epsilon and the Rebellion in the process. Despite the tough talk, however, he is a coward who often flees from difficult situations and stutters when caught off-guard. It seems the others knows of his true intentions on some level - despite Botos' constant Rebellion PR, Scarface was the one made Epsilon's right-hand man, and Ferham does not believe Botos' claim that he was ordered to take her warhead key. In the English dub, Botos also speaks with a distinct Southern U.S. accent.

History[]

Background[]

Botos was a vocalist Reploid before joining the Rebellion Army.[2] Epsilon evidently saw potential in him as one of the Rebellion Cadre, but Botos was truly in it for his own intentions.

Mega Man X: Command Mission[]

Botos first appears alongside the Rebellion Cadre during Shadow's betrayal of X and Zero atop the Lagrano Ruins. He fires a laser to stop X from going after the wounded Zero.

Botos next appears in the facility underneath the Vanallia Desert, being responsible for the jammers located there. He is seen speaking remotely with Scarface, who orders him to finish off X's team. It's also hinted in that scene that he is envious of Scarface's position.

Botos then reveals himself to the party on the third floor of the base after the jammers are shut down, and he uses a small portion of Supra-Force Metal to fight X and Zero's party. When defeated, he is knocked back in a comical way, dropping the Supra-Force Metal and making a pathetic attempt to retrieve it before Zero forces him to retreat. Steel Massimo remarks that the battle felt too easy.

During the expedition at the Melda Ore Plant, it is revealed that only the Cadre hold the keys to unlock the Supra-Force Metal warhead. This results in Botos being pursued by X's party. After a small chase, he locks himself in a room that X and Zero's party can't enter. Once the team defeats Ferham elsewhere, Botos approaches her with claims that he is under orders from Epsilon to relocate the Supra-Force Metal. When she refuses, he rips Ferham's warhead key from her body. In reality, he swiped the keys to steal the missile's Supra-Force Metal for his own aspirations of power (even maniacally badmouthing Epsilon, his beliefs, and the entire Rebellion as well). However, as soon as he opens the warhead he is attacked and killed by Colonel Redips disguised as Spider, who then steals the Supra-Force Metal himself.

Powers and abilities[]

Botos uses lasers and sonic weaponry in battle, and his elemental alignment is Fire. He can attack physically with a slap or ranged with lasers, but his real danger is his ability to summon Q-Bits that fight alongside him with powerful Fire attacks. He can then use his sound to power up his allies and to weaken the party.

When fleeing from the party in Melda Ore Plant, Botos also exhibits the ability to create decoy clones of himself as a misdirection. These decoys are not as powerful as Botos himself, being incapable of sonic attacks, and they can only summon Bigbits instead of Q-Bits.

Trivia[]

  • Botos is one of the few characters in the entirety of the Mega Man franchise to have left behind a corpse after death (as opposed to immediately exploding). His body also shows clear signs of damage, such as his arm being torn off to such a level that severed cables were present.
  • He is the only cadre whose name was completely changed in the American version of the game.
  • The design of Botos' armor seems to be inspired by Hinduist imagery (such as the halo-like ring on his shoulders).
