A '''bottomless pit''' is another common death hazard in the [[Mega Man]] games. If the player falls in one, he/she dies. The sole exception to this rule is when the pit is actually a pathway to the next room. If the player is equipped with a Wall Climb, they can test a pit by sliding down the wall to see if the screen begins scrolling, indicating it is a pathway. The player can then leap up to safety if scrolling doesn't occur. The same effect can be achieved with an upward Air Dash or Double Jump, but it's much riskier since the upward bound may not guarantee safety.

Some bottomless pits are equipped with hazards to prevent the player from navigating them, usually in the form of a falling obstacle over the pit, objects rising over the pit or an enemy that will attack the player during the crossing. In cases involving enemies as the obstacle, it may be possible to blast them before making the jump, or if the enemy spawns above or below the pit, to destroy the foe and leap before another can respawn. Shield type weapons are also effective in most cases.

An interesting twist to this hazard can be found in [[Gravity Man]]'s stage. If the gravity is reversed, the holes on the ceilings will act as bottomless pits.

*In the Classic and Zero series, Beat and certain Cyber Elves, (it's impossible to die from falling into a bottomless pit on Easy mode in Mega Man Zero 4) can lift the hero out of the pit, and the Biometals in easy mode of the ZX series. However, in the Classic series, there is only a limited amount of uses Beat can be used avert death by bottomless pit. Due to Cyber Elf usage in the Zero series, points will be deducted from the final score.

Megaman going to pit

Mega Man being knocked into a bottomless pit in Tornado Man's stage.

A bottomless pit is death hazard that appears in all side-scrolling Mega Man games. If any playable characters falls into one, they will lose a life. Pits often have enemies that either rise from them or fall from above that try to knock the player in, so pits often need to be approached carefully before jumping over them. In some Mega Man games, there are certain items that will carry the player out of a pit for a short time if they happen to fall into one.
