A bottomless pit is death hazard that appears in all side-scrolling Mega Man games. If any playable characters falls into one, they will lose a life. Pits often have enemies that either rise from them or fall from above that try to knock the player in, so pits often need to be approached carefully before jumping over them. In some Mega Man games, there are certain items that will carry the player out of a pit for a short time if they happen to fall into one. For example, purchasing Beat in some games from the original Mega Man series or using a bird Cyber-elf in the Mega Man Zero series will save the player from a bottomless pit once when used.
