Bubble Splash (バブルスプラッシュ Baburu Supurasshu) is the Special Weapon that X obtains from Bubble Crab in Mega Man X2.
When equipped, X fires a stream of bubbles that float in an upwards arc for a moment before bursting. The amount of bubbles generated in the stream depends on how long the player presses the FIRE button: up to seven bubbles can be generated in a single stream when the button is pressed one time long enough, and a minimum of one or two bubbles will be generated if the button is pressed lightly. This weapon will continue to fire if the weapon button is held down, including during charging. When Bubble Splash is fully charged, X is surrounded by a ring of bubbles that can be used as a "shield" to damage enemies.
The behavior of Bubble Splash changes when used underwater: upon firing Bubble Splash, the bubbles will rise up much quicker than if they were fired normally; when charged, the ring of bubbles will allow X to jump incredibly high.
Bubble Splash is Flame Stag and Violen's weakness.
Use in Combat[]
Bubble Splash is functionally similar and could be seen as a successor to Fire Wave, firing an attack as long as the button is held down to do high close range damage. With its arcing bubbles and shield, Bubble Splash has more functions compared to it's predecessor.
At close range, Bubble Splash is extremely powerful against regular enemies in stages, destroying many in less than a second at point blank range. Bubble Splash's arcing shots can also be used to hit enemies above you while you stay out of their line of fire, though it may be both a time and resource draining strategy.
At long range, Bubble Splash falls apart, as its spread and arcing is too extreme to consistently hit enemies across the screen. Using it this way can be very punishing, as you'll have to wait for some of the bubbles to pop, due to there being a limit to how many projectiles from X's weapon can be on screen at a time. It's a good strategy to fire at close range in controlled bursts to get the most out of Bubble Splash's high damage and fire rate.
It is very ill advised to use Bubble Splash against bosses who aren't explicitly weak to it, as most weapons are more direct and can potentially do more damage. It can be pretty much completely outclassed by the Double Charge Shot against bosses.
Bubble Splash is the weakess of Flame Stag and Violen, while Zero and Neo-Sigma, along with his Virus Form are completely immune to it.
