- "Model A! You broke rule! You make big mistake. The one you choose, no good! He Defective! You lend him your power, no good!"
- —Buckfire, Mega Man ZX Advent
Buckfire the Gaxelleroid, known in Japan as Deerburn the Gazeroid (ディアバーン・ザ・ガゼロイド Diabān za Gazeroido), is the first Pseudoroid that the player fights in Mega Man ZX Advent. He is the boss of the Train, arriving to retake Biometal Model A.
Characteristics[]
Buckfire is a male Pseudoroid based on a gazelle, with costume traits from North American Indigenous peoples. His body has a sand color, with details in red, black and white. He has two cannons for arms with long red hooks on the wrists, and a pair of red and black horns with the appearance of sword blades. The plating on the back of his head resembles the feathers of a war bonnet, and his feet have the appearance of pilots from locomotives. The soles of his feet are equipped with boosters in a single direction, giving him specialty in ultra-hard, ultra-high heat, and ultra-fast one-point breakthrough attacks.[1]
Buckfire's AI is set to match his direct fighting style, emphasizing quick judgement and an impulsive personality. Buckfire is highly aggressive and values order above all else, even turning on his comrades if they break the rules.[1] However, he is not very eloquent, as his sentences tend to lack prepositions and do not follow proper grammar. He apparently looks down on females (although not nearly to the same extent as Rospark the Floroid), chiding Model A's "mistake" if the player plays as Ashe.
History[]
Buckfire leads the Maverick attack on the Train of the Hunter's Guild as it transports Model A to Legion HQ. When confronted by the new Mega Man Model A, he claims that the Biometal broke rules and made a big mistake by lending its power to a "defective" (as Grey) or a "girl" (as Ashe). He also corrects Grey/Ashe's accusations that he was a maverick and makes clear that he is in fact a Pseudoroid. He then announces that he will pummel the Mega Man to the ground and do to them what Pandora and Prometheus would not do, but he is defeated and his data is copied by Model A's A-Trans. During his death throes, he also denounced Model A as a traitor before lamenting their future world. He is revived by Master Albert for the final battle in Ouroboros, but he is defeated again. He dies claiming that the Mega Man broke the law and should move on to face the "King's" punishment.
Strategy[]
Boss Battle[]
Equipped with a fragment of Biometal Model W, Buckfire specializes in blitz tactics. He uses his Biometal's output to superheat the blades on his arms and head, as well as to shoot fire arrows from his cannons.[2] He attacks with speedy dashes to attack above and below himself, and can use the blades on his wrists as slicing boomerangs. He is weak to lightning, and his weakspot the war bonnet on his back.
Attack | Description | Notes |
---|---|---|
Burning Arrow[3] | Buckfire shoots a spread of three flaming arrows from his arm cannons. | |
Crash Bunt[3] | Buckfire charges before leaping upwards, attacking above himself with his horns. | |
Meteor Kick[3] | Buckfire jumps into the air and charges energy, and performs a powerful diagonal divekick. | |
EX: Double Tomahawk[3] | Buckfire launches his arm blades as spinning tomahawks, which fly in triangles around him before returning. | Only used after losing half of his energy. |
Medal Awards[]
- Gold - Defeat Buckfire using only Model P's touch screen.
- Silver - Defeat Buckfire by hitting only his weak point, his headdress (back part).
- Bronze - Finish Buckfire with Hedgeshock’s Rolling Dash or Rolling Spike.
A-Trans[]
Buckfire is a fast and powerful character. His default movement option is a sustained dash along the ground. His charged rush attacks can be used to destroy certain crates. However, his speed can actually make him somewhat unwieldy, along with his size.

Rockman ZX Advent (manga)[]
Buckfire appears in the second chapter of the Mega Man ZX Advent manga. Grey and Ashe intrude in his ancient temple, falling into his spike trap. Grey uses A-Trans to fly out as Queenbee, and then destroys Buckfire using Model A's busters. In the following chapter, Grey transforms into Buckfire to escape Chronoforce during their battle.

Etymology[]
Buckfire the Gaxelleroid's English name comes from the term "buck", meaning an adult male gazelle, with "fire" added to it. Gaxelleroid is a mutation of "gazelle", which is a kind of antelope. It is unknown why Buckfire is localized as "Gaxelleroid" and not "Gazelleroid". It may be because the letter z is not pronounced like an English z in the Latin 'gazella' but rather like the Greek letter ζ, so writing the name with an x may better approximate this pronunciation (or 'gaxella' may simply be an older variant of the same Latin word due to the rarity of the usage of z in Latin). Also, "Gaxelleroid" may be a pun on the word 'accelerate' due to Buckfire's dashes.
Trivia[]
- In Mega Man X DiVE, the weapon Explosive Bolt is based on Buckfire the Gaxelleroid's arrow busters.
- Buckfire is the only Pseudoroid in Mega Man ZX Advent confirmed to be equipped with a Model W fragment.[2] It is safe to assume that the other seven are also powered by Model W, following the definition of a Pseudoroid as a Biometal-powered animal Reploid.
- His Japanese name, Deerburn the Gazeroid, mistakenly implies he is a deer despite the fact that deer and gazelles are from entirely different biological families (cervidae and bovidae, respectively).
- Buckfire has a similar battle style to Panter Flauclaws from Mega Man Zero 2, seeing that they are both fought on trains.
- Buckfire's Native American motif fits the theme of his stage which is a moving train being under attack, a common setting in many spaghetti westerns.
- In the Japanese version, Buckfire has a higher-pitch scream used as his intro taunt which is closer to a Native American themed character. This taunt is changed to a generic snort scream in the U.S. version.
