Calling on Colonel! (カーネル参上! Kāneru sanjō!) is the 8th episode of Rockman.EXE Stream. It aired in Japan on November 20, 2004. It is the debut episode of Colonel.EXE.

Plot[]

Yuichiro, Netto, and Enzan head to Ameroppa to investigate a mysterious explosion that occurred in the desert. Rockman and Blues use an unmanned vehicle to observe the site of the explosion, which emits high heat, but an extinct virus appears and attacks. A Navi who calls himself Colonel saves them. Meanwhile, in the real world, the extinct virus materializes and attacks Netto and his friends. Yuichiro thinks that the explosion may be related to Duo.[1]

Summary[]

The episode begins with a man in a dark fog, frantically running through as he looks for an escape. He’s then shocked by seeing what looks like himself behind him. Before he can investigate further, a pair of red glowing lights appear in the fog and charge after him.

Meijin and Manabe drive through the desert together, driving towards hordes of viruses. Manabe uses her Battle Chip Gate to delete the viruses. Watching from the Ministry of Science, Enzan uses his own battle chip gate to assist. When an Anaconda virus emerges from the sand and rips off a tire, Manabe protects them with a Flame Line chip. The two sigh in relief, believing all viruses were deleted, when one more Anaconda lunges at them. Netto jumps in while in cross fusion to protect them. It’s then that it’s revealed it was a test, and a dimensional area disperses.

In the Ministry of Science, Commissioner Kifune praises the Battle Chip Gate when a call comes in from Professor Takei from the Space Observatory. It’s requested that Yuichiro accompany Takei in Ameroppa, as something has occurred that could relate back to Duo. On the flight, it’s revealed that two months prior, there was a strange explosion in the Ameroupian desert caused by a bright large object crashing into the desert. The explosion was so big that the area was still obscured with smoke and was extremely hot. While discussing the area, Takei reveals that the Ameroupian government sent out an exhibition team. Finally, Takei informs Yuichiro that the explosion in the desert occurred on the same day as Duo’s invasion of Earth.

When landing in Ameroppa, the crew is introduced to Hunter, an Amerouppian Net Police officer. They take a helicopter to the desert site, but Hunter mentions that the team never responded, and finds it odd when informing the exhibition team of their imminent arrival. As they fly closer, Rockman and Blues mention that they’ve begun to feel dizzy. After checking the PETs, Yuichiro discovers their time precision is off by 2.03 seconds, with Enzan explaining that it’s strange for them to be off that far.

When arriving at the exhibition base, Hunter and Manabe can’t find anyone, and all the cars are gone. While looking around more, Yuichiro, Takei, and Enzan go to examine the data collected. The lights flicker in the room, so Enzan goes to find a replacement light. Netto, who’s alone in what looks like a kitchen, goes to leave the room when a vision of the exhibition crew appears behind him. However, Netto only hears it as he turns around too late to see the vision. Enzan, after finding the replacement light, opens the supply closet door to see a vision of the past when the crew first arrived at the base.

Yuichiro and Takei discover that all the data in the base has been corrupted by what is supposed to be an extinct virus, the Trilovirus. Meanwhile, Manabe and Hunter find an exhibition car destroyed. The crew leaves to investigate the scene, and Yuichiro explains the car would still work, but wouldn’t protect humans from the heat. That’s when a member of the exhibition crew, Professor Walter, emerges from the fog, and the crew runs to help him. When trying to ask what’s wrong, Walter freaks out, yelling about a monster being inside him.

Back in the base, the crew discusses Walter having visions of himself, to which Netto and Enzan compare it to their experience of seeing similar visions of the past in certain areas of the base. Yuichiro decides that Rockman and Blues should drive the exhibition car in the crater.

After being plugged into the car, Rockman and Blues drive into the crater, reporting to the crew in the base that the temperature is getting higher and their strange feeling of dizziness from earlier is getting stronger. Yuichiro reveals that the reason for the Navis dizziness is due to a time distortion in the area, which also caused visions of the pass to occur. Approaching the crater, a caution signal goes off, revealing the same signal that Duo had given off. Yuichiro orders the Navis to drive back immediately, but they’re ambushed by the Trilovirus. At the same time, the Trilovirus attacks in the real world, breaking through the ceiling and causing the group to flee towards the helicopter. However, the group is surrounded by the Triloviruses, so Manabe calls for a dimensional area. Manabe uses her battle chip gate to help the crew escape the base, but there are more viruses outside.

When Blues and Rockman start getting overwhelmed, an emblem appears in the air and out bursts Colonel. Colonel deletes every virus, saving the two and introducing himself. The two are impressed by Colonel’s strength and fight alongside him. Meanwhile, in the real world, the crew is surrounded by the extinct viruses. Rockman and Blues manage to return just in time for their operators to perform cross fusion. The two manage to delete all the viruses.

A city is shown as an older Barrel sits by a window, staring at Duo’s comet. He declares that his fight has just begun and then dies. While Hunter drives Netto and Enzan, they pass by Barrel’s funeral. Rockman notices that the emblem of the Navi that had saved them earlier(Colonel) was on the tombstone.

At the airport, Enzan tells Netto that he’s staying in Ameroppa with Yuichiro to help against Asteroid Navi attacks. When wishing Netto farewell, Enzan’s hand glows as he’s granted the seal of Duo. Enzan looks up and now sees Duo’s comet.
