Chameleon Sting (カメレオンスティング Kamereon Sutingu) is the Special Weapon that X obtains from defeating Sting Chameleon in Mega Man X. When equipped, X fires a green shot that splits into three needle-like lasers. When fully charged, X mimics Sting Chameleon's Transparent Movement and becomes temporarily invincible to enemy attacks, flashing rainbow colors. While in effect, X cannot change weapons without losing the effect, but he can, however, fire uncharged shots of Chameleon Sting.

In the remake, Mega Man Maverick Hunter X, Chameleon Sting is upgraded slightly. In addition to its normal fire, the Chameleon Sting can be aimed in two different angles - diagonally upwards or diagonally downwards - by pressing UP or DOWN on the D-Pad respectively. Its three lasers emit directly from X's buster without the initial green shot, giving it a faster firing rate too. The charged version is upgraded as well, allowing X to use different weapons - even the Hadoken - with the invincibility still in effect.

The Chameleon Sting is the weakness of Storm Eagle and Rangda Bangda.

The charged version of Chameleon Sting is called Transparency and featured as one of the Boss Chips in Mega Man X DiVE.
