Chameleon Sting (カメレオンスティング Kamereon Sutingu) is the weapon that X obtains from defeating Sting Chameleon in Mega Man X. In its uncharged state, it fires a green beam that splits into three shortly after being fired. When charged, the Chameleon Sting changes the colors of X's body in a rainbow of colors, making him temporarily invulnerable, allowing him to go through enemy shots and projectiles. While in effect, X cannot change weapons without losing the effect, but he can, however, use the uncharged shots of Chameleon Sting.
In the remake, Mega Man Maverick Hunter X, the Chameleon Sting has been upgraded a bit. Instead of firing straight forward, the Chameleon Sting can now be fired in two different angles - diagonally upwards or diagonally downwards - by pressing UP or DOWN on the D-Pad respectively. The charged version of Chameleon Sting in this game has also been upgraded as well, allowing X to switch to and use different weapons - including even the Hadouken Fireball - while the invincibility is still in effect.
The Chameleon Sting is Storm Eagle and Rangda Bangda's weakness.
