Chameleon Sting (カメレオンスティング Kamereon Sutingu) is the weapon that X obtains from defeating Sting Chameleon in Mega Man X. When equipped in its uncharged state, X fire a green beam that splits into three shortly after being fired. When charged, the Chameleon Sting changes the colors of X's body in a rainbow of colors, making him temporarily invulnerable, allowing him to go through enemy shots and projectiles. While in effect, X cannot change weapons without losing the effect, but he can, however, use the uncharged shots of Chameleon Sting.
In the remake, Mega Man Maverick Hunter X, Chameleon Sting has been upgraded slightly. Instead of firing straight forward, the Chameleon Sting can now be fired in two different angles - diagonally upwards or diagonally downwards - by pressing UP or DOWN on the D-Pad respectively. In addition, the green beam is eliminated altogether, allowing X to fire the three beams directly from his X-Buster which allows a faster firing rate. The charged version of Chameleon Sting in this game has also been upgraded as well, allowing X to switch to and use different weapons - including even the Hadouken - while the invincibility is still in effect.
The Chameleon Sting is Storm Eagle and Rangda Bangda's weakness.
