Mr. Higsby has come to Lan's school as a special lecturer. However, Higsby, a rare chip maniac, is after the rare chip that Yai has, so he locks Yai and her friends in the classroom and makes them battle his Navi, NumberMan, in an attempt to steal the chip. Will Lan, who is outside the classroom, be able to unlock the classroom and rescue Yai and his friends safely?[1]

The episode starts off with NumberMan defeating a NetNavi with his dice attack and Mr. Higsby taking his Battle Chip, an M-Cannon with a Rarity Level of three.

Later, while Lan is late for school, he bumps into Mr. Higsby and makes him drop all of his Battle Chips. After Lan is scolded by Ms. Mari, she soon introduces Mr. Higsby, a lecturer from Den University. He is supposed to be lecturing about Virus Busting, but goes off topic and rants about having strong Battle Chips in NetBattles. He is then reminded by Maylu to stay on topic. Outside, Sal notices and recognizes Mr. Higsby.

After school, Yai shows off her new treehouse which is also a 3D NetBattling system. From there, Glide challenges Roll, MegaMan, and GutsMan to a NetBattle. Lan accepts the challenge, but Dex tells Lan that he's going first. GutsMan throws a GutsPunch at Glide, but Glide uses the Life Aura Battle Chip to protect himself, enabling him to easily beat GutsMan by using the Hero Sword Battle Chip. Dex accuses Yai of cheating, saying that it’s not fair to use rare Battle Chips, but Yai counters that economic strength is a kind of skill. After GutsMan's battle, MegaMan is about to start his against Glide. However, Mr. Higsby and NumberMan have hacked into the system and has his eyes set on Yai's rare Battle Chips.

Mr. Higsby asks Ms. Mari about Yai, reminding her of the newspaper meeting which causes her to be grateful to him. He is embarrassed by this, but soon finds himself developing a personal crush on her. The next day after school, Lan is late to the school's newspaper club meeting. Meanwhile, NumberMan and Mr. Higsby hack into the school's system and lock Ms. Mari, Maylu, Dex, and Yai inside. NumberMan shows himself to them via a screen and explains that the only way out is a NetBattle which involves betting on rare Battle Chips, but Ms, Mari says that NetBattles are forbidden on school grounds and soon accuses NumberMan of being a member of WWW, with the latter taking offense to it. Dex goes to battle NumberMan, but is drenched by the sprinkler system and from there, NumberMan selects Yai in a gambling NetBattle for her PaladinSword and DreamAura Battle Chips. Yai refuses, to which NumberMan warns her that if she doesn’t battle, he plans on destroying the school’s computer system. Yai proclaims that her family is rich and that replacing the school's computer system would be no problem, but Dex, Maylu, and Ms. Mari are shocked, explaining that the computer system’s data can’t be replaced and from there, Ms. Mari gives Yai and Glide permission to NetBattle against NumberMan.

In an attempt to end the NetBattle quickly, Yai uses PaladinSword right off the bat, but NumberMan counters with a barrier, saying that an amateur would first use a finishing move at the start of a NetBattle. When Lan arrives and sends MegaMan to intervene, he is locked out by the school security system. NumberMan pummels Glide with his dice attacks while MegaMan stands helpless. Yai then uses the Life Aura Battle Chip to protect him, but it's no use, Even with the Battle Chip, Glide is being blasted by NumberMan. Maylu and the others deduce the identity of NumberMan's operator as Mr. Higsby due to his knowledge of computer systems and obsession with rare Battle Chips.

In due time, Maylu and Roll realize that there is a password for the firewall, but Ms. Mari forgot both the password and the codes for it. Roll searches the data in the firewall, but NumberMan releases a bunch of mosquito-like viruses at her. MegaMan intervenes and deletes them all, with Roll finding out that the codes for the password corresponds to the number of doves (pigeons in the original Japanese version), rackets, and potted plants located throughout the school, to which Lan has to count the number of each of them. Lan loses count of the potted plants, but Sal tells him the answer. The codes are 34, 63, and 665. NumberMan rolls triple 6's on his dice just as MegaMan and Roll gain access to the NetBattle, with MegaMan himself using Area Steal to help save Glide from a potentially dangerous blast. MegaMan then proceeds into using Wide Sword, cutting through the dice with ease while stopping NumberMan in the process, but NumberMan begs for mercy, leading to not only the latter's defeat, but also the stop to the gambling NetBattle as well while Maylu, Dex, Yai, and Ms. Mari are freed from their captivity.

After NumberMan's defeat, Mr. Higsby explains to Lan and his friends that he couldn’t forgive those who refuse to learn the true value of rare Battle Chips and decided long ago that he would take them away. Ms. Mari angrily berates Higsby for frightening her students and knowingly sabotaging school property, threatening to have him thrown in jail (in the original Japanese version, she berates Higsby for making her students suffer and refusing to believe in the students’ own efforts). Ms. Mari calms down after her scolding and asked Higsby about his first rare Battle Chip. Higsby remembered that day and in doing so, saw the error of his ways, shedding tears in the process. When Lan is running to school thinking he is late once again, Mr. Higsby reveals that he had opened a Chip Shop and it's also revealed that Lan was running to school on a Saturday.
