"Fires vacuum cyclones left and right. Most effective when surrounded by the enemies and against skyborne enemies."
―In-game text, Mega Man X4

Double Cyclone (ダブルサイクロン Daburu Saikuron) is a wind-themed Special Weapon that X obtains from Storm Owl in Mega Man X4. This weapon is based off Storm Owl's ability to create energy cylones. When equipped with this weapon, X holds both arms outward and releases two green wind energy balls on each side of him that curve upward for a preset distance before disappearing. If one of the energy balls hits an enemy, it will stay in place before it disappears. When charged, X fires two green cyclones horizontally from both sides of him that go all the way past the screen. Because this weapon is fired from both sides of X - whether it be normal or secondary fire - this weapon covers a decent amount of horizontal range.

This weapon is Magma Dragoon's primary weakness. Hitting him with Double Cyclone not only stuns him, but it also sets him in a loop - the player can easily defeat Dragoon by firing this weapon over and over and not having to worry about getting up close as this weapon has a wide range. Double Cyclone, ironically, is also Double's weakness. However, using this weapon on him will cause small blobs of his body to break off and turn into small robots that either home in on X's location and can shoot at him from above, or bounce around the room, acting as obstacles. Unlike the other bosses, using his weakness against him can actually create more problems for the player than solve them.

Mega Man X5[]

In Mega Man X5, when the player fights Ultimate Armor X as Zero, X will use the charged version of Double Cyclone after taking enough damage. Like from the previous game, X will send out two green cyclones from each side, however, he will usually be standing in the middle of the room when using this attack. The amount of damage done to Zero if the tornadoes connect is rather high: on Normal Mode it inflicts 10 damage; on Easy and Xtreme Modes, it does 7 and 12 damage, respectively.

Other games[]

  • Double Cyclone is one of the weapons used by X in Project X Zone.
  • The Double Cyclone palette was included as a skin for X in TEPPEN on August 3, 2020.
  • In Mega Man X DiVE, the appearance of Double Cyclone is used as the shell of the weapon Howling Storm.
