Earth Gaizer (アースゲイザー Āsu Geizā)[1], known as Earth Crush (アースクラッシュ Āsu Kurasshu) in the Rockman X manga series, is a technique used by Zero in the Mega Man X series. To perform Earth Gaizer, Zero punches the ground to attack around himself.

History[]

Mega Man X2[]

Zero uses Earth Gaizer as a boss in the finale in Central Computer Stage in Mega Man X2. He uses the attack whenever X moves above him, punching the ground to kick up debris and force him to descend. When he first does so, it destroys a computer in the background and tears up the floor. After the battle, he punches the ground again to open a passage for X to pursue Sigma.

Mega Man Xtreme[]

In Mega Man Xtreme, data of Zero can be summoned to perform this technique if X obtains the "Z3" Zero Scramble program found in Morph Moth's stage. To use it, it must be selected from the sub-screen. Upon use, Zero appears and punches the ground, generating explosions that hit all enemies on screen.

Mega Man Xtreme 2[]

In Mega Man Xtreme 2, Zero can obtain the Earth Gaizer by defeating Blast Hornet in Zero Mode or Extreme Mode. To use it, it must be selected from the sub-screen. Similar to Mega Man Xtreme, Zero punches the ground, generating explosions which move from left to right, hitting all enemies on the screen. Earth Gaizer can be used on the ground and even in midair. Earth Gaizer is effective against Tunnel Rhino, and against Magna Centipede in Boss Attack mode.

Trivia[]

  • The name "Earth Gaizer" is first introduced in Mega Man Xtreme, while the technique in X2 was unnamed until the 2005 book Compendium of Rockman X uses the name "Earth Gaizer" to refer the X2 attack.[2]
  • One of Dynamo's attacks is also named Earth Gaizer, and like Zero's, it hits a large area from the screen. However, instead of debris or explosion, Dynamo's Earth Gaizer release beams from the ground.
  • In Mega Man ZX, Model OX can use Earth Crush as one of its special Overdrive attacks, punching the ground to kick up boulders. Girouette also uses a similar move called Ground Crusher, but using his Z-Saber rather than his fist.
