Eratoeir (エラトネール, Eratonēru), often shortened to Erato (エラト, Erato), is a character in Mega Man X DiVE. She is the eldest sister of Angepitoyeir and Droitclair, three siblings foreign to the Mega Man X series that appeared suddenly in the Deep Log due to a bug and now host the Sigma Virus.

Overview

A divine individual, Erato is quite calm and elegant, never showing her anger. However, she is also very powerful and has a mischievous and dark side to her as well, seemingly enjoying watching her allies in trouble or annoyed. Erato can also be ruthless to those who put her siblings in danger. Even Droit and Angie once said that while she is usually kind, sometimes she can be scary.

As an older sister, Erato is very motherly and disciplined toward her siblings and is quite strict with them, shown when she warned Droit about using dirty words and got angry with Angie for not caring about other things. All she wishes is for her siblings to be happy, but as the three are hosts of the Sigma Virus, she laments for their possible future.

History

Due to a bug, Eratoeir and her siblings appeared suddenly in the Deep Log as the hosts of the Sigma Virus. While the Player, RiCO, iCO, and ViA were fixing errors in the Deep Log, the gang eventually found them.

After Droit and Angie were freed from the Sigma Virus inside them, the group goes after Erato, who is angry for being separated from her siblings. She was difficult to approach, setting several obstacles, including Dynamo, to fight against them. While chasing Erato, RiCO analyzed her data to be able to convert her into a Hunter Program, making her a Mega Man X character. Afterwards she is cornered and the Sigma Virus in her body, Hell Sigma, is destroyed, also destroying her original version. She is later brought back as a Mega Man X character and reunites with her siblings.

Hunter Programs

Erato appeared as two S rank Hunter Programs.

Her default Hunter Program is a DiVE Festival exclusive that has the Active Skills Sacred Realm and Divine Summoning.

• Sacred Realm deploys a field that causes continuous damage to enemies within range.
• Divine Summoning summons a spirit that automatically locks onto the closest enemy and shoots.

Gangsta Girl Eratoeir, known as "Dokuson no Eratoneir" (独尊之エラトネール, "Dokuson no Eratoneir") in Japanese and "Big Sister Boss Eratoneir" (大姐頭艾拉托涅爾, "Big Sister Boss Eratoneir") in Chinese, is an event limited version dressed like a sukeban that appeared in the school festival event. This is the result of unknown data that entered in the Deep Log combining with Eratoeir's Hunter Program, changing her bright white armor to contrasting black clothes that are a bit small for her size, Erato noting that she cannot close the top. In this form, her voice and tone deepen considerably, changing from soft and tender to threatening and stern. Gangsta Girl Erato likes to hold scissors on her hands, her nails are painted with her favorite colors (light blue and pink), she found Gangsta Boy Sigma amusing, and warns others to not get on her way, violently punishing those who mess with her. She attacks with a black baseball bat that has the text 国士無双 (roughly "Peerless Dignitary") written on it. Her Active Skills are Unorthodox Martial Arts and Boss Lady Aura.

• Unorthodox Martial Arts makes Erato warp forward to the closest target to perform an extremely quick charging strike with a bat. The following use will make Erato throw her bat like a boomerang.
• Boss Lady Aura makes Erato hit the ground with her bat, causing a large explosion that deals damage to all enemies within range.

Etymology

• Eratoeir may be named after Erato, a figure in Greek mythology who was the Muse of lyrical poetry, particularly romantic poetry. The name Erato itself mean "desired" or "lovely".
• The "Dokuson" in the Japanese name from her Gansta Girl version may come from the quote "tenjō tenge yui ga dokuson" (天上天下唯我独尊, yui ga dokuson for short), which is said to have been spoken by the Buddha and means that "there is no equal to me below the heaven and on this earth". When spoken by Buddha there was no nuance of conceit or egotism as it was related to the Buddha-nature and the Śūnyatā concept, but it was later misused out of context as a way of arrogantly saying that "there is no one greater than me".

Trivia

• Eratoier is the only playable character in Mega Man X DiVE whose voice changes between her standard character and variant model (not counting Iris -another-, who is considered a separate character from the original Iris). Although she is still performed by Kikuko Inoue in both versions, new lines in a different voice were recorded for Eratoier's Gangsta Girl variant, changing her personality from the original performance.
