"Drop dead into the dimensions!!"
—Centaur Man, Mega Man & Bass database

Centaur Man (ケンタウロスマン Kentaurosuman) is a Robot Master from Mega Man 6 that originally worked as a tour guide in an old archeology museum, though he was later modified for combat. His Special Weapon is the Centaur Flash - a unique system that grants Centaur Man space distortion abilities, allowing him to temporarily halt time. Whilst a powerful weapon, the main drawback is that Centaur Man has to consume a large amount of his energy to use it.

In order to complement his attacking abilities, he is also equipped with the ability to teleport over short distances, and a specially designed buster on his right arm whose shots spread on impact. He later gains the ability to fire arrow-shaped bursts of energy in multiple directions for an attack known as the Centaur Arrow.

Centaur Man is a uniquely designed Robot Master in how he walks on four legs rather than the biped designs usually employed by Dr. Wily's other creations, resembling the mythical creature his name references. This design gives him great resilience, speed and agility compared to his colleagues, but he lacks the ability to jump.

Appearance[]

X8NavigatorAlertIconEdit This section requires expansion.

Centaur Man is a humanoid robot based on the mythical centaur. He has a yellow/green upper torso, red eyes, a green helmet with yellow vertical lines and three long horns on it, green shoulder plates with a small blue area on each of them, a white hand on his left arm, a green arm cannon on his right arm, a brown fur tail and dark gray hooves.

Personality[]

Whilst strong-willed and known for being good at making decisions quickly and effectively, Centaur Man is also something of a deep thinker, and has a tendency to dwell on his past regrets too much. Centaur Man enjoys gambling in his spare time, but perhaps owing to his horse-like design, dislikes whips.

Video game appearances[]

Mega Man 6[]

When Centaur Man heard about the First Annual Robot Tournament, he entered the competition to restore the museum he worked on with the prize money. However, he was reprogrammed by Mr. X alongside seven other Robot Masters in the competition to help him conquer the world, and Mega Man has no choice but to fight them. Defeating him rewards Mega Man with Centaur Flash.

Attack pattern[]

Centaur Man has two methods of movement. He will either walk forward until he reaches the wall, or he will teleport out of sight only to reappear a second later. Mega Man has to jump over Centaur Man if he's walking, and as Centaur Man tries to teleport onto Mega Man's position, it is best to bait him away from teleporting in the center of the room. This is because Centaur Man will always attack after these movements by firing a projectile straight forward. Due to his height, this shot will fly over Mega Man's head if he stands still. Upon coming into contact with the wall, however, the shot splits into 7 shots that spread out from the wall to cover multiple angles. It's best to stay close to the center so the shots spread out enough that they will fly around Mega Man. Sometimes, Centaur Man will activate Centaur Flash just before he actually fires a shot. Centaur Flash basically freezes Mega Man in place for a long enough time so the 7-shot spread will be released before Mega Man can react to it. This makes it a bit trickier to dodge but the same strategy of staying near the center applies.

Weakness[]

Centaur Man is weak to Knight Crusher, which defeats him in 7 hits. As with all bosses, Centaur Man takes 3 damage from a fully-charged buster shot. He also takes 2 damage and knockback from a fully-charged Power Adaptor punch, which will force him into doing one of his two movements.

Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters[]

"You can go through his legs by sliding if you can time it right. Centaur Man can't jump. Remember this!"
Dr. Light

Centaur Man is one of the six bosses in the "Search for Wily!" course. He uses the Centaur Arrow, an energy arrow shot diagonally up or down from his arm cannon. He also uses a shield for defense, a naginata, and has the help of Heli Metalls. He is weak to Gyro Man's Gyro Attack. His legs can be dashed under at certain times.

Mega Man Megamix[]

CentaurMegamix

Centaur Man in Mega Man Megamix.

Centaur Man appeared in the story "The Greatest Enemy in History" from the manga, where he is a robot from Greece that was originally employed as a museum guide, but was modified for combat to enter in the Ultimate Robot Championship. Centaur Man and other seven participants were reprogrammed by Mr. X to help him conquer the world, and when Mr. X revealed his plans to the public, Centaur Man took down Karate 003. Centaur Man fought against "Mega Man" in New Metropolis and was defeated. He was later found and repaired by Dr. Cossack.

Centaur Man also has short appearances in Mega Man Gigamix. He was defeated by Saturn in the story "Dark Moon", and was repaired after the Stardroids were defeated, appearing in the end of the story "To a Shining Morrow".

Mega Man (Archie Comics)[]

Centaur Man is one of the many Robot Masters to appear in the crossover Worlds Collide, notably attempting to throw Vector the Crocodile off after Vector grabs onto his horns. Later - and still taking place prior to the comic adaptation of his game debut - he appeared briefly in issue 31. After Dr. Light spreads the formula for anti-EM field protective coating, Centaur Man was somehow treated with the solution and reactivated to help save lives, notably saving several people from a flood. Centaur Man is also seen in Doctor Light's vision in the 55th issue after the doctor gets zapped by the Time Skimmer while working with it.

Rockman 6 manga[]

Centaur Man appears in the Rockman 6 manga, retaining his role as one of the eight robots that must be faced. He has a base in Innocent City. Centaur Man makes his debut in the first chapter, where he is one of the eight robots Mr. X sent to test the strength of the tournament participants. In Kanashimi no Kishin, after Knight Man's defeat, a damaged Brain Break informs Centaur Man of what happened and Centaur Man cries. When Rockman reaches an area with two shutters in Centaur Man's base, he goes inside the lower shutter and faces the angry Centaur Man, a powerful opponent that is able to warp, split his shots and stop time. After a difficult battle, Rockman manages to win, but the Centaur Man he defeated was a dummy robot and he is warped outside the base. Centaur Man makes his proper debut in Arashi no Gekitou, where Rockman must invade the base again to fight against the real Centaur Man, this time going inside the upper shutter. Rockman has another difficult battle, but this time he uses Knight Crusher. The Knight Crusher hits Centaur Man's helmet, breaking it and revealing Centaur Man is actually a long haired woman. A furious Centaur Man then continues her attack to avenge Knight Man, who she loved, but Rockman soon defeats her with the Knight Crusher and leaves her base in mourning.

Later, Rockman fights against a Copy Robot with Centaur Man's form in Wily's base, mimicking the game's Boss Rush, and in the ending the real Centaur Man appears, repaired by Dr. Right.

Rockman & Forte manga[]

Centaur Man can be seen in one panel from the first chapter of the Rockman & Forte manga as one of the robots from the robot museum. He is seen in the bottom right of the picture, with his central and left horn visible.

Trivia[]

  • Centaur Man was named Centaman (ケンタマン Kentaman) in his boss character contest submission.
  • In Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters, Centaur Man's theme is a remix of Junk Man's theme.
  • In the Mega Man & Bass CD data, Centaur Man's upper body's color is blue instead of green.
  • Centaur Man is the only Robot Master in Mega Man 6 that does not have a Mega Man Battle Network series counterpart.
  • Centaur Man is one of the few Robot Masters to give Mega Man two different weapons in different games. The others are Pharaoh Man, Tengu Man, and Astro Man.
  • Centaur Man's second weapon, Centaur Arrow, may be a reference to the constellation of Sagittarius, which is depicted as both a centaur and an archer. One of the Rockman Strategy bosses is actually named Sagittarius, and he resembles Centaur Man in being a centaur-like robot that fires arrows. However, Sagittarius has wings and fires arrows from a bow as opposed to a buster.
  • In terms of timeline, Centaur Man is the first Robot Master to be based on a mythical hybrid (in his case a centaur), followed later by Sagittarius and Splash Woman.
  • Centaur Man is the first quadrupedal Robot Master, the only other one known being Sagittarius. He is not, however, the first to have something other than feet, as Mega Man 5's Napalm Man had tank treads.
  • Centaur Man is the third Robot Master who can manipulate time, after Time Man and Flash Man.
