Not to be confused with Fenix.

Phoenix (フェニックス Fenikkusu) is a race of creatures from the Duel Masters trading card game series. Eternal Phoenix (referred to simply as Phoenix) and Death Phoenix, are two which had a cameo appearance in Mega Man Battle Network 5 as Giga Chips.

History[]

These two Phoenixes were featured as Giga Chips in Mega Man Battle Network 5, as a result of a crossover between the Mega Man Battle Network series and the Duel Masters series. Both series were being published by Shogakukan in CoroCoro Comic and TV Tokyo (same hour block). They also had toys produced by Takara Tomy.

Characteristics[]

They resemble the powerful creatures from the Duel Masters series and possess great height. However, due to limitations, they have the exact same body visual and they are only differentiable by their color scheme.

Attacks[]

Phoenix[]

BN5TCGChip006

Randomly shoots meteors on the entire field, then heals the player 30% of their HP.

Death Phoenix[]

BN5TPGChip006

A copy of Nebula Gray's Black Prominence attacks the entire field (can hit the enemy up to two times). Then it recovers the last used Navi Chip, with all its boosted damage intact.

Trivia[]

  • Due to GBA cartridge space limitations, the visual of Phoenixes are just palette swaps of one body[1].
  • Since Eternal Phoenix's name (エターナル・フェニックス) is too long for a BattleChip name (8 characters), it was shortened to just Phoenix [2].
  • Both of them tie into the main theme of Battle Network 5: Light (Sun, in Eternal Phoenix and Solar Boy Django's case) versus Darkness (Darkloids, with the most notable creature being Nebula Gray).
  • These chips were not made into physical Battle Chip toys. While many chips that weren't made are still programmed into the Progress PET toy and the Progress Chip Gate, these two are not implemented at all.
