This article is about the NetNavi Bass.EXE. You may be looking for his anime or manga counterparts. For others named Bass, see Bass (disambiguation).
"Navis have no need for operators. All that we need is the strength to exist on our own! Absolute power, so that we need cower before none. I will weed out weak Navis who cannot fight on their own!"
―Bass, Mega Man Battle Network 3

Bass.EXE, known as Forte.EXE (フォルテ.EXE [1][2] Forute Eguze) in Japan, is an antagonistic NetNavi from the Mega Man Battle Network series. Bass has tremendous potential, greater than any other Navi, and is considered to be one of Mega Man's most powerful enemies in the entire game.

History[]

Background[]

Bass.EXE was created by Dr. Cossak as part of SciLab's Independent Navi Project. It’s part of developing a new generation of fully independent NetNavis: AutoNavis, that do not need an operator to live and function. Bass was also installed with a special "Get Ability" program that allows him to assimilate the abilities of deleted viruses and Navis.

A series of disruptions and errors began to plague the net, caused by Alpha. However, SciLab initially blamed Bass for the disruptions and sent an elite force of Navis to delete him. Bass survived the attack, but clung to life. Bass crawled through the internet, frequently attacked by enemy viruses. Over time, Bass absorbed the deleted data of viruses and Navis in order to grow stronger and recover his strength. Bass eventually became one of the most powerful Navis the net had ever seen, the SciLab attack leaving him with a glowing scar across his Navi emblem and a deep-seated hatred against the humans that had betrayed him. He would become known as Cyberworld's God of Destruction.

Mega Man Battle Network[]

Bass apparently copied the Life Aura data from the Life Virus, gaining a powerful defense. In the first game the Life Aura chip can only be obtained from Bass, and a mail about the Life Virus notes that "apparently there's evidence that the Life Virus defense program was copied by someone...".

Bass is an optional boss that can be found as a random encounter in the deepest part of the Internet. He can only be encountered after completing the game if the player has 174 chips in the library (all except for Life Aura, which is obtained from Bass, and the Bass chip, which is event exclusive).

Mega Man Network Transmission[]

Bass appears as a hidden boss in this game. In order to fight him, the player must have obtained every Navi Chip in the game (except for the Bass Navi Chip). This can be done through the Net Battle Simulator, and requires the player meeting the requirements for the good ending, as that is the only way to obtain the Zero Navi Chip. Once that has been done, Lan receives an email from Mayl about a "secret area" in Den Area 3 where a powerful Navi is found. This is where the player can find Bass. He constantly hovers and has a variety of defensive Auras, and has a large number of wide-range attacks at his disposal. Even after removing his Aura, he is immune to the Mega Buster, and quickly regenerates his Aura in a matter of seconds. He actually has 10,000 hit points, but the fight is scripted to end when he receives damage from six Battle Chips (so even six ZapRing1 chips, for 120 damage total, will end the fight). After the fifth hit, he'll cease to regenerate Auras, and the sixth hit blows off his cloak. He foreshadows his actions in Mega Man Battle Network 2, and the player earns the Bass Navi Chip with the battle's conclusion.

Mega Man Battle Network 2[]

This time, he played a bigger role in the plot, where the Gospel Netmafia was trying to clone him through the use of BugFrags. Initially, it seemingly produced a perfect copy of Bass, although it proved to not be completely perfect due to MegaMan.EXE defeating the copy easily. Gospel's leader (revealed to be Sean), however, was unwilling to give up and decided instead to max out the server's capacity to 200%, not caring if he ended up killed by the intense radiation in the process. This failed, and the clone mutated into the giant Gospel bug beast. The monster overcharged the server to 600% before MegaMan could destroy it.

The real Bass would later appear in the WWW Area after the credits of the second game, where he destroys a Bass clone and states his anger at someone in particular for making copies of him using Sean Obihiro as a cover. He then swears to unleash his judgement upon the humans one day before disappearing.

He would eventually find his match with MegaMan, who had recently thwarted Planetman's attempt to rebuild the WWW. Being impressed with his power, Bass deems him and Lan Hikari as worthy opponents and would challenge them to a net battle. After they had bested him, Bass still remains quite astonished that a Navi like MegaMan is able to wound him. He then disappears, but not before vowing to meet MegaMan again, only with his full power.

Mega Man Battle Network 3[]

It was later revealed that Wily had been behind the creation of Gospel, and was trying to copy Bass in order to free Alpha. Bass himself would form an uneasy alliance with Dr. Wily, who promised him the power to attack the humans in exchange for helping him steal the TetraCodes and Alpha's data.

Deep in the Undernet, Bass would sense MegaMan's power after his battle with FlameMan, drawing him to their location with the intent to challenge his worthy opponent once more. The wandering Navi then proceeds to instantly delete Flameman (who was in his way) with his Earth Break technique and unleash his full power against MegaMan.

To his disappointment, MegaMan provided no challenge due to the Life Aura being fully impervious to any of his attacks. Just as Bass was about to finish him off, one of the Official NetNavis appeared to protect him by using the Dark Aura. Goaded by the boasts of its power, Bass attacked the Navi and the Dark Aura barely withstood his power. Bass likely would've finished him off if Wily hadn't called him away.

Later, when MegaMan had successfully deleted DrillMan in a net battle to secure the sealed data of Alpha, Bass arrives to take the data instead. MegaMan tries stopping Bass by using the Giga Freeze program, only for him stop it with one hand. It is then revealed that Bass is one of the only few "Chosen Ones" who could control the Forbidden Program without freezing. After absorbing the program, Bass' interest in Megaman (who could also control Giga Freeze) continued to peak as he decided to spare him for now before leaving.

At the climax of the game, Bass reveals his past to everyone - he was initially created by Cossak, but was blamed for the incidents caused by Alpha, and was left to wander through the Undernet, with a scar across his body and a grudge against humans. Cossak attempted to stop Bass, even opting to sacrifice himself by detonating his jacked in consciousness in order to do so, though Bass instead forced him back into his original body (with it being implied that Bass did this because he didn't wish to see Cossak die).

At the network storing Alpha's core data, Dr. Wily instructs Bass to smash and absorb the Guardian program, which he claims would make the Navi even stronger with his Get Ability program. Bass calls to question his motives to making him stronger, to which Wily answered that he only desired chaos and destruction of Net society and his willingness to give his own aged body to sacrifice in satisfaction. Amused by his answers, Bass destroys the program and absorbs the core of it. He is then confronted by Megaman who challenges his ideals of power and strength, only for Bass to shrug his attempts of convincing him and fights him (this is the only time that Bass is fought in a battle that's part of the storyline).

Bass is then defeated by MegaMan but survived, whom Wiley revealed to have betrayed in hopes of the two deleting each other. After revealing that he duped Bass into destroying the Guardian program so that he would successfully bring Alpha back to life, Bass is absorbed by the newly awakened Alpha alongside Wily.

After Alpha's destruction, Bass himself was found near deletion, only to be saved by a remnant of the Gospel Multibug Organism. Having merged with Gospel's data, Bass became more powerful but lost most of his memory in the process. He would continue prowling the Cyberworld with his wounded body, healing himself and growing stronger with the bug fragments he absorbs.

After Serenade's defeat, Serenade reveals that he previously fought against Bass in the past, only winning after a battle that lasted days with both being nearly deleted. He then warns Megaman of his eventual reawakening, telling him that only defeating him would Megaman be recognized as the strongest Navi.

Courtesy of at least 300 BugFrags being fed by MegaMan, Bass GS awakens to confront the latter, wanting to test his newfound powers on him. It is revealed that Bass had forgotten his own identity, remembering only his lust for battle as he challenges Megaman to a fight. After a close battle, Bass loses much to his dismay, only to be reminded by Megaman that he fought alone while he had Lan as his operator. Remembering the memory of Cossack and the need to be with him, Bass lashes out in rage of this memory and vanishes from the Secret Area.

Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge[]

Bass can be fought in the postgame. After a marathon of battles, he will destroy the player's next opponent and take their place as the next challenge. He will drop his Navi Chip to be able to use it.

Mega Man Battle Network 4[]

Bass would resurface in the Undernet as a stone statue sealed behind a Standard Chip complete door. The instant MegaMan draws close, Bass' voice began speaking directly to MegaMan's soul as he felt his hateful Dark Soul rousing Bass out of his slumber. Claiming MegaMan's inner darkness called out to him for battle, Bass reawakens from his dormant state and engages with Megaman once more. After the battle, Bass states to Megaman that his DarkSoul has given him a clue to boost his power even more. After vowing to immerse himself in even deeper darkness, he warps away in search for more power in the darkest depths of the Net.

Rockman.EXE Phantom of Network[]

A cache copy of Forte can be fought in the Ura Internet. However, he is not a perfect copy, having only part of his memory, not even remembering his name. Despite his great power, he is not as strong as the original. Rockman believes that Forte's power was too great to be fully kept on cache data.

After completing the game, True Forte can be fought in Secret Area.

Mega Man Battle Network 5[]

When MegaMan wields the power of Bass' soul, the real Bass could feel its power resonating with his from afar. Forming a tear at a secret corner of the Net, Bass appears to MegaMan's location in Oran Island's network; drawn by his new power being similar as his. He then challenges Megaman to a battle and lost, to which he confirms that the power is the real thing and states that they might meet again someday should Megaman keep retaining it. Bass retreats back into the rift which closes.

Once Megaman reaches a corner of Nebula Area, Bass reappears from a new rift to challenge him yet again. Having recovered from their previous battle and grown stronger by passively absorbing the surrounding Dark Power in the area, Bass faces Megaman once more but loses yet again. He would retreat into the rift once more, but not before vowing to grow even more powerful.

The Chaos Lord, who lies in the deepest part of the Nebula Area, can attain the form of Bass.

Mega Man Battle Network 6[]

Bass is first found laying dormant at a gravestone deep in Undernet Zero, which is titled "Cyberworld's God of Destruction". When Megaman goes to investigate the headstone, his presence causes Bass to stir and awaken out of his tomb. He lashes out of anger at his opponent for setting foot in his resting place and disturbing his slumber, challenging Megaman to battle. Once he lost, Bass warps away but not before leaving him the Bat Key to the Graveyard area.

At the Graveyard area, Megaman is ambushed by Bass at a blank gravestone which the latter intended to be his opponent's. Despite having become stronger since they last fought, Bass loses yet again but not before he identifies the source of Megaman's new power. Now desiring the power of the Cyber Beasts for himself, he retreats in a flash.

He goes to the Underground, the former prison of the Cybeasts, and absorbs their data fragments, gaining the power of the Cyber Beast of the opposing version. After forcing MegaMan to fight a clone of Beast Out MegaMan, Bass moved in for the kill but was deleted. It is unknown if he survived the last battle, although Lan suggests so by convincingly saying "Bass is Bass".

Rockman EXE 4.5 Real Operation[]

FortePETMenuEXE45

Forte in the PET.

Forte is an unlockable playable character. His theme is a remix of his original character's theme. As a playable Navi, he starts every battle with a Barrier 100. He gains HP by deleting NormalNavis on the Internet.

Continuing his EXE series characteristics, Forte, even if he has an operator, will never be satisfied with the battles, not even winning the great Official Tournament. He also states that he normally would never enter a human's PET, and is only doing this on a whim.

He has two powerful Special Programs as a playable Navi. His Shooting Buster rakes his opponent's field with machine-gun fire, striking random patterns of two panels at once. It's other Special Program is the Darkness Overload, where Forte gathers energy on both hands and rushes into the center of the opponent's front column, unleashing a massive blast of dark power across the back two columns, cracking every panel the attack touches and pierces Invisible. However, unlike his boss counterpart, if an opponent is standing on the same panel he is, Forte will cancel the attack.

For an unknown reason, Forte can remove the Whirlwind obstacles blocking the path at the Internet, like WindMan does.

MegaMan NT Warrior anime series[]

Main article: Bass.EXE (anime)
BassEXEintro2

Bass in the Second Area intro of the first season.

In the anime, Bass has a vastly different origin as a being born from PharaohMan’s residual data. A blank and empty being, after recovering the memories of his past self’s purpose from MegaMan and his Ultimate Program from the Grave Virus Beast, Bass claims Kid Grave’s empty robotic body for his own and begins observing humanity. After learning of the looming threat of Duo, Bass attempts to use the Darkloids to combat the threat before attempting to take Duo on his own, becoming the main nemesis of Slur.

This version of Bass is more reclusive and his character never been explored further since he rarely appears. But it can be assumed that he still retains his desire to fight strong opponents as well as his high self-esteem just like when he desires to fight Nebula Grey and kill Regal for using him. He doesn't have a rivalry with MegaMan, and has no interest in him in particular other than the Ultimate Program MegaMan has. Also, while he views that humans and their world are worthless and hates the mere thought of being used by them, Bass doesn't seem to hate humanity as much as other counterparts and is only concerned of becoming more powerful.

MegaMan NT Warrior (manga)[]

Past Forte

Bass

Falzar Beast Out Bass.

Similar to the games, Bass was created as the first independent NetNavi. Bass was blamed for an incident that he was not part of and is attacked, almost being deleted. Bass come to the conclusion that Dr. Cossak has betrayed him, and leaves, swearing he will never trust anyone again, being lonelier than other counterparts. Bass slowly uses his Get Ability to become stronger, and over the years, he became a powerful and feared legend in the Undernet known as the "Black Shadow". After hearing about him, Lan Hikari and MegaMan train to challenge him, which would lead to several encounters with Bass.

Bass has an unnamed defensive shield that rises from his cape and can only be shattered by doing great damage. As in the games, Lan and MegaMan perceive that Bass becomes vulnerable during his Earth Breaker attack.

Bass goes through a number of new forms in the manga: Hub Style, Bass GS, Bass Cross MegaMan, and Beast Out Bass.

Battle Story MegaMan NT Warrior[]

Indebtedforte

Bass in Battle Story MegaMan NT Warrior.

This version of Bass is somewhat different than what he is usually portrayed, for the fact that it explores more of his good side. He was created years ago to maintain network energy, and to improve system functions in SciLab's systems. He is shown to be very powerful in the beginning. The power he possesses causes him to go crazy and destroy everything in his path, somewhat similar to how he acts in other media. However, it is that power that made Bass realize that he is a threat to the Cyberworld. Not wanting to harm anyone, he willingly seals himself away. He is also shown to be polite, even addressing himself in Japanese as "watashi" (わたし) rather than "ore" (おれ - though he uses "ore" when the power he possesses overwhelms him), and is good friends with ShadowMan.

As a boss[]

Bass can be fought in every Mega Man Battle Network game in the series, acting as a story boss in Mega Man Battle Network 2 and 3 while acting as a secret boss in the original Mega Man Battle Network and Mega Man Battle Network 4 and beyond. Also acts as a final boss in Rockman EXE 4.5 Real Operation.

For information on his boss fights, see:

Appearance[]

Forte

Bass's scar
(over a blank mark)

Much like his original counterpart, Bass.EXE appears to resemble an elaborately sinister version of MegaMan.EXE. as he looks almost identical to his original counterpart, but his cobra-like helmet has been modified as the "fins" are mostly straightened out and split off at the bottom to show off the second pair of smaller fins. Golden shoulder pads are also adorned on his body as well. As in the manga and anime his height is comparable to Megaman's and Protoman's. In the video games, he appears visibly taller, quite like an adult person compared to a child. As for the fins of his helmet, he is also portrayed as noticeably longer and wider spreading in the video games better than in the anime series and manga, giving him a more threatening appearance.

As for the chest jewel that was present in the original version is replaced with his own emblem, which was a solid black circle with no features or characteristics, but a white scar is embedded across it diagonally. Bass.EXE's most famous feature, however, is a long flowing light brown tattered flowing cloak that usually covers the lower portion of his face as well as the rest of his body, which invokes a wanderer appearance. In the manga, his cloak is much more worn and was black color.

Though his original emblem is never displayed in the video games or the anime series, however in the MegaMan NT Warrior manga it is shown to resemble a f. In the manga, the origin of the scar on his emblem was due to a Heat Blade used by a SciLab security NetNavi during the Alpha Revolt.

Personality[]

Bass's personality is primarily developed during the first three games. In the first game, nothing is known about him. In the second game, because Bass is still only briefly seen, not much is seen about him. What is shown is that due to his own pride, he hates anybody that would try to create copies of him and his disdain towards humans. After his battle with MegaMan, he displays shock and interest in that MegaMan could hurt him and leaves. This battle and some events in the third game indicate that Bass likes fighting, but he's only interested in stronger opponents.

As The third game reveals far more about him. Because Bass felt betrayed by humans, he grew to hate them and longed for revenge. He displayed no sense of loyalty as well. When he first wanted to fight MegaMan, even though Bass was working with Wily, he attacks FlameMan, one of his "ally's" subordinates. After being freed from Alpha, Bass has no memory of his past but retains his interest in fighting which causes him to continue to challenge MegaMan.

In the second game (being the first where he has dialogue), Bass is shown to speak in an intellectual and formal yet surprisingly polite manner. In the third game, he drops the politeness altogether but retains his verbose, analytical rhetoric, giving off an aloof and distant matter-of-fact vibe. This aspect of his personality is greatly downplayed in the last three games - possibly due to his dialogue being more limited and less relevant to the main plot - he also starts to speak in a more colloquial manner like most other characters. He notably becomes more aggressive and hotheaded in the sixth game, and is much more eager to hurl taunts at MegaMan than to praise him.

Special Versions[]

  • "Bass":
In Battle Network 2, the Gospel organization creates clones of Bass which has his moves but lack his Life Aura. One goes awry and turns into the Gospel Multibug Organism. The true Bass later appears to wipe out the fakes and marked in the boss records as Real Bass (True Forte (真フォルテ Shin Forute) in Japan).
  • Bass GS (Gospel Style (ゴスペルスタイル Gosuperu Sutairu)), known in Japan as
Forte GS (フォルテGS(ジーエス [3] Forute Jīesu):
Encountered only in Battle Network 3. This is a Bass that has lost his memories and has fused together with Gospel from Battle Network 2. He has upgraded to 2000 HP with a 200 HP Aura. In addition to his usual moves, he gains new powerful moves involving Gospel.
  • Bass Deluxe (BassDelux) (BN2) / Bass Omega (BassΩ) (BN3-5) / Bass SP (BN6): These version names are all Forte SP (フォルテSP) in Japan.
    • In Battle Network 2, Bass upgrades his HP to 2000 and his Aura to withstand 150.
    • In Battle Network 3, Bass Omega has 3000 HP, now actually shoots 6 yellow energy shots, totally replacing the regular green Air Burst shots, has a 200 Life Aura, along with all the other attacks carried over from his GS version.
    • In Battle Network 4 and 5, Bass Omega often sport about 3000 HP or 3500, along with a slew of highly damaging attacks.
    • In Battle Network 6, Bass has 2700 HP instead and replaces a majority of his darkness moves for Battle Chips.
Bass XX
  • Bass XX (Double X (ダブルエックス [4] Daburu Ekkusu)), known in Japan as
    Forte XX (フォルテXX):
Encountered only in Battle Network 4 and 5. The XX stands for unknown like in 20XX, meaning Bass has obtained unknown power. [5] This version sports 4000 HP and a regenerating Black Barrier. One of the biggest distinctions is that his yellow-colored plating changes to a dark purple color. This version also makes use of a unique frontal-barrier of darkness not seen in other versions.
  • Bass BX (Beast Crossed (ビーストクロスド [6] Bīsuto Kurosudo)), known in Japan as
    Forte BX (フォルテBX):
Encountered only in Battle Network 6, after defeating Bass SP in the Graveyard. This version sports 3400 HP and the signature attack from the Cybeast of the opposite version. Defeating him in the Gregar version will give the player a Colonel Force chip and in Falzar a Hub Batch chip.

Abilities[]

General Abilities[]

  • Get Ability Program (ゲットアビリティプログラム Getto Abiriti Puroguramu):
This is Bass's most important ability. Like the classic Bass, Bass can absorb the abilities of defeated foes. He used this to gain every ability from defeated foes, including Life Aura, Gospel, Alpha, Dark Soul and Cybeasts.
    • In the manga, unlike in both game and anime, this ability allows Bass to automatically absorb other Navis' powers before defeating them, which does twice: First to obtain Hub Style and late to acquire Falzar's power and Beast Out like MegaMan. Bass utilizes this ability to get Serenade's attack reflection power, in an attempt to save MegaMan's life to absorb him into himself and become Bass Cross MegaMan, and the aforementioned gaining of Beast Out Falzar power.
  • Giga Freeze (ギガフリーズ Giga Furīzu):
This ability is mentioned only in MMBN3. This attack isn't used in in-game battles. Bass obtained the Giga Freeze data by using Get Ability when MegaMan tried to use it to prevent the Cyberworld monster Alpha from rampaging. This was because he was one the only Navi besides MegaMan who could make contact with the program without being permanently frozen by it. Whether Bass still has this program or ever uses it remains unknown.

Mega Man Battle Network[]

Bass' first Battle Network attacks have no official names but some moves are used in later games.

  • Life Aura, known in Japan as
    Dream Aura (ドリームオーラ Dorīmu Ōra):
Bass' signature defense, it requires 100 damage to be taken down. Bass is constantly shielded by the aura, only dropping while he's attacking with his charged blasts and then restoring it immediately after. In Operate Shooting Star, he drops the Aura while he's charging instead of while attacking.
  • Air Burst (エアバースト Ea Bāsuto):
Bass shoots a powerful green energy sphere down his current row.
  • Explosion (エクスプロージョン Ekusupurōjon):
Bass charges up his arm to prepare for a continuous attack. This attack has three variations[7], with the color of Bass's arm indicating which variation will be used:
    • Yellow: shoots over green energy spheres down all rows in random patterns.
    • Blue: shoots a blue sphere that travels on MegaMan's field in a horizontal figure-eight pattern.
    • Red: shoots blasts on random panels in MegaMan's field at once, and then he shoots again in a different pattern; he repeats this up to twelve times, with the interval between each volley shortening and requiring the enemy to dodge faster and faster.

Mega Man Battle Network 2 & 3[]

  • Life Aura, known in Japan as
    Dream Aura (ドリームオーラ Dorīmu Ōra):
Real Bass and Battle Network 3 only. In these games, Bass won't drop his Aura while attacking. The Aura requires more damage as it incrementally increase with each version.
  • Air Burst (エアバースト Ea Bāsuto).
  • Explosion (エクスプロージョン Ekusupurōjon). In Battle Network 2, Real Bass and Bass Deluxe use all three color variations from Battle Network 1 once he is below half health, only using the yellow variation otherwise. In Battle Network 3, however, only the yellow variation is used.
  • Earth Break, known in Japan as
    Earth Breaker (アースブレイカー Āsu Bureikā):
Real Bass and Battle Network 3 only. Bass will rise briefly out of reach and then descend suddenly, trying to smite his target with an overhead-slamming arm strike. This attack ignores most if not all defenses and will break an entire column of panels. Note that Bass drops the Life Aura for the duration of this attack, making this attack his biggest vulnerability.
  • Shooting Claw (シューティングクロー Shūtingu Kurō):
GS only. Bass points at MegaMan's area, and Gospel's severed paws will strike from the air, hitting and cracking two panels.
  • Gospel Cannon (ゴスペルキャノン Gosuperu Kyanon):
GS only. A Gospel head will appear on Bass' forearm and spray its breath across two columns, targeting the panel immediately before Bass and the entire column beyond that. If Bass GS is not in the center of the field, the attack's pattern remains consistent but shifts location accordingly.
  • Vanishing World (バニシングワールド Banishingu Wārudo):
GS only. Bass summons a larger Gospel head, which launches a massive laser that attacks almost the entire field. It has the range of the original Breath of Gospel attack used by Gospel itself, plus any panels in the same row as Bass beyond that. This attack breaks every panel in range, pierces the player's defenses, and inflicts massive damage. Bass GS can only use this when his HP is 500 or less, and will only use it once.

Mega Man Battle Network 4 & 5[]

  • Bass abandons the Life Aura for unknown reasons, and adopts a new defense style based around phantom movements. When Bass moves he'll leave a trail and can only be hit while standing still.
  • Shooting Buster (シューティングバスター Shūtingu Basutā):
Bass' busters rake his opponent's field with machine-gun fire, striking random patterns of two panels at once.
  • Helz Rolling,[8] known in Japan as
    Hell's Rolling (ヘルズローリング Heruzu Rōringu):
Bass charges dark power in his hands and then unleashes a series of black wheels that travel along the rows above and below him, changing direction to arc towards his target.
  • Dark Arm Blade (ダークアームブレード Dāku Āmu Burēdo):
Bass will warp in front of his target and strike with a blade made of dark power. If this attack hits, he will warp and strike again from behind, and then again from the front. Attacks from the front have Long Sword range, while an attack from behind has Wide Sword range.
    • In the anime, this attack is depicted as Bass wielding an energy sword of dark power in each hand.
  • Darkness Overload (ダークネスオーバーロード Dākunesu Ōbārōdo):
Bass gathers energy on both hands and rushes into the center of the opponent's front column, unleashing a massive blast of dark power across the back two columns, cracking every panel the attack touches. If the player is standing on the same panel he is, they will still take collision damage.
  • Chaos Nightmare (カオスナイトメア Kaosu Naitomea):
Battle Network 5 only. Bass rises high above the field and creates a growing giant sphere of dark power on one of his hands before casting it down on his opponent. This attack hits the target's original location and every panel surrounding it; it pierces invisibility and cracks all panels in the impact area. This is also Chaos Lord's Battle Chip.
  • Black Barrier (BlakBarr) (ブラックバリア Burakku Baria)[9][10]: Exclusively to Bass XX, a special dark barrier that will absorb up to 150 (BN4)/200 (BN5) point of damage total before dispersing. After some time it will regenerate. (This is not an aura and is also placed in front of Bass as opposed to coating him all-around).
    • In Battle Network 4, it will spawn as soon as he moves. Using North Wind will only remove it momentarily.
    • In Battle Network 5, it will spawn as he's about to launch his first attack. It can be instantly removed for a long period by Barrier Delete effects like North Wind and Tornado Arm.

Mega Man Battle Network 6[]

  • Bass continues using his phantom movement in this game.
  • Shooting Buster (シューティングバスター Shūtingu Basutā):

  • Battle Chips:
Rather than unique attacks, Bass will use attacks based on Battle Chips. He will use all of them in both normal and SP versions, but will only use Tank Cannon and Life Sword as Bass BX. In his SP version, Bass' battle chips are stronger than even the highest versions available to the player.
    • Tank Cannon (センシャホウ Sensha-hō, "Tank gun"):
Non-element. If it misses its intended target, the Tank Cannon will impact the last panel in the row and both the panels above and below it, cracking all impacted panels.

      Golem Punch (ゴーレムパンチ Gōremu Panchi):

      (Dream Swordドリームソード (Dorīmu Sōdo):

Summon Beast (Falzer) (サモンビースト(ファルザー) Samon Bīsuto (Faruzā)):
BX version only and in the Cybeast Gregar version. Bass BX materializes Falzar’s head onto his forearm and uses its signature attack, a horizontal tornado that covers the next three panels in the same row as Bass and the panels above and below the third. Sonic Storm also disperses barriers and auras. This is listed as Sonic Storm in the English BradyGames guide.
  • Summon Beast (Gregar), known in Japan as
Summon Beast (Glaga) (サモンビースト(グレイガ) Samon Bīsuto (Gureiga)):

Trivia[]

  • Bass is the only Navi with a missing Navi mark. Instead, a large scar is placed where the mark should be. The official Navi mark never appears in any game, but the manga and Rockman.EXE Official Complete Works depicts it as the "Forte" symbol, the musical term for "loud" or "strong."
  • In Mega Man Battle Network 2, a Bass copy makes a reference to his Japanese name with the line, "Battle is my forte!" This line is not used in the original Japanese dialogue, where he simply states, "...Understood... You can leave the fighting to me!"
  • A dark silhouette of Bass appears on the "Life Aura" Giga Class Battle Card in Mega Man Star Force.
  • The dev team made a rule that Navis could not have any cloth in their designs. Yuji Ishihara, the character designer for the Battle Network games, confessed to breaking this rule upon designing Bass, for he wanted to give him his trademark cloak[12].
  • In Mega Man Battle Network 2, a Program Advance involving Bass and Gospel can inflict of upwards to 6000 damage in which Gospel attacks with its breath, then if the enemy is still alive, Bass uses Earth Crusher that inflicts another 3000 damage. However, one of the chips required cannot be obtained normally without a Japanese exclusive event or play on the Virtual Console version.
    • This Program Advance is easily the most powerful in the entire Battle Network series, although it makes an appearance in Mega Man Battle Network 4 and Mega Man Battle Network 6 as greatly watered-down versions.
