Sting Chameleon, known as Sting Chameleao (スティング・カメリーオ Sutingu Kamerīo) in Japan, is one of the eight Mavericks from Mega Man Maverick Hunter X. Originally a Maverick Hunter in the 9th Special Battalion, Sting Chameleon fell in with Sigma's rebellion, believing Sigma will be become the king of a new world where he can leave his mark.

Reploid who belongs to the 9th Special Battalion (Rangers). Using his tongue for quick attacks, along with his ability to blend into his surroundings, makes him a highly-skilled Hunter. On the other hand, he goes too far in his mantra of "by any means necessary," and is called a coward for his sometimes sly, sneaky tricks. Bested by Sigma, he joins the rebellion, using his skills learned as a Ranger to be the first line of defense for the forest base.
Chameleon Sting
Emits high-level optical laser beams in 3 directions. Can also fire up and down at the same time.
History[]
Sting Chameleon bases himself in a jungle where he is confronted by X. X reprimands Sting Chameleon for joining Sigma, but Sting Chameleon states that Sigma will become the king of the new world and the two fight. In Free Play and Hard Mode, Sting Chameleon hints that Sigma may have taken hostages to force Sting Chameleon into complying with him, but he quickly drops the act and reveals he only wishes to leave his mark on the world. He is revived alongside the other Mavericks in Sigma's fortress, where he is a mindless shell of himself. X defeats him again, destroying him for good.
In Vile mode, Sting Chameleon admits his respect for Vile, who asks him to step aside. Sting Chameleon refuses to comply and is destroyed.
Strategy[]
Sting Chameleon's attack pattern remains similar to Mega Man X. The spikes he rains from the ceiling are much more predictable and easier to dodge, coming down in sheets that are visible on the ceiling before falling. Chameleon also has a new attack where he charges before shooting a yellow-colored Chameleon Sting, which is difficult to dodge due to the narrow spread. He is weak to X's Boomerang Cutter and any of Vile's Cutter weapons, which knock him off the wall.[1]
- Thorn Rain - Chameleon hangs from the ceiling by his tongue, shaking down telegraphed sheets of thorns to rain down on the player. More thorns rain down in Hard mode.
- Transparent Movement - Chameleon climbs along the wall while invisible, making him invulnerable.
- Iron Tongue - Chameleon extends his tongue to strike the player. He uses this attack in two different variations: the first being after he becomes visible from Transparent Movement (which he will strike once or up to three times) and the second where while visible, he will jump towards the player and strike once.
- Chameleon Sting - Chameleon appears at one of the top corners of the room and flicks his tail, sending out a wave of three green lasers.
- Cerberus Phantom - Chameleon briefly charges before firing three simultaneous lasers at different angles.

Sting Chameleon in Worlds Unite.
Sting Chameleon's Maverick Hunter X incarnation appeared in the crossover comic event Worlds Unite. After joining in a brief attack on X, Sonic the Hedgehog, Mega Man, and their assembled allies the Maverick Hunters, Freedom Fighters, Robot Masters, and Team Sticks, he departed through a Genesis Portal to progress Sigma-1's conquest. He joined Volt Kraken in invading the world of Viewtiful Joe, where he was briefly mistaken for Cameo Leon of that world while battling Sticks the Badger and Axl.

- Sting Chameleon and Vile share voice actors in both English and Japanese; both are voiced by Roger Rhodes and Hiroshi Shimozaki respectively.
- In the Japanese version, Sting Chameleon laughs "nininini" (にににに). Moreover, when he attacks or is surprised, he utters a slightly modified line of his laugh. Even in Mega Man X DiVE, he has the same lines in the Japanese script.
