"Ha! Wretched vermin! I pity you, I truly do... You obviously have no understanding of how far the Rebellion Army can take Reploid technology!"
―Dr. Psyche, Mega Man X: Command Mission

Dr. Psyche (Dr.サイケ Dr. Saike) is a boss in Mega Man X: Command Mission. He appears in the Gaudile Laboratory.

Characteristics[]

Unlike traditional Mega Man X Maverick bosses, Dr. Psyche's animal-based design is not immediately evident. He appears as a humanoid Reploid with white armor and a bulbous red cranium, which has lights and machinery within. His face has a gas mask-like snout with mustache-like fins on either side, only somewhat resembling a cephalopod such as an octopus. He has a cape and dark blue leg armor, while his thighs are striped green and yellow with packs on either side. However, once he enters his Mad Nautilus form the animal inspiration becomes clear, as he transforms into a large nautilus frame with his head attached at the bottom.

Dr. Psyche was an arrogant and bossy intellectual. He genuinely cared for the Rebellion's ideals, and desired the evolution of all Reploids. He also seemed to still respect his old friend Prof. Gaudile, being disappointed with his decision to stay neutral and attempting to coerce him through blackmail rather than force. However, he was entirely cruel with anyone he deemed useless, as seen when he ordered his guards to brutally attack Marino while cackling maniacally. He also had exaggerated, flamboyant body language, often swinging his arms and head wildly when speaking or fighting, giving him the demeanor of a mad scientist. His battle tactics and voice lines suggest that he prefers to use his superior intelligence in place of his brawn when fighting opponents.

History[]

Background[]

Dr. Psyche was involved in the Force Metal experiments at the lab at Lagrano Ruins, labeled the "Computational Humanoid Reploid". He worked in a research team devoted to studying a new generation of Reploids.[1] He was a former research partner to Professor Gaudile, and the two maintained a professional relationship until Dr. Psyche elected to join the Rebellion Army.

Mega Man X: Command Mission[]

Due to his history with Professor Gaudile, Dr. Psyche was dispatched to recruit him to the Rebellion Army. He also planned to procure the Force Metal Generator on the excursion to the laboratory. Soon after entering the lab, however, Psyche was confronted by X's party and sent Preons to keep them busy while he escaped.

Dr. Psyche confronted Gaudile in the Central Analysis Room, where Gaudile vehemently rejected the offer to join the Rebellion. In order to coerce him otherwise, Psyche threatened to steal the Force Metal Generator and opened a surveillance camera feed to its location. However, both were surprised by the presence of Marino in the room, and Psyche rushed to stop the thief from taking Cinnamon first. He and his Preon guards made short work of Marino, continuously firing at her while she was down. Cinnamon was horrified by this brutality and began healing Marino, which impressed Psyche greatly. He then took Cinnamon away.

Before Dr. Psyche could leave the laboratory with Cinnamon, he was again confronted by X's party, including Marino. Frustrated, Psyche decided to fight them himself. After taking enough damage in his normal form, Psyche entered his Mad Nautilus form, but was still defeated by the team.

In battle, Dr. Psyche always begins by summoning Needles to aid him and will summon more when they are destroyed. While Needles are present, he will attack by firing twin laser blasts from the two small guns holstered at his sides (Doom Blaster) and by throwing an assortment of random objects, which can affect player stats (4-D Throw).
