Wily Machine 6 (ワイリーマシン6号) is Dr. Wily's sixth Wily Machine, a spiked machine based on the Wily Press from Mega Man 5, appearing primarily in Mega Man 6. It is the boss of Wily Stage 4, also being the final boss of the game alongside its Wily Capsule.

The Wily Machine 6 also has a brief appearance in the opening scene of Mega Man 7, and the Shadow Devil takes the form of this Wily Machine in Mega Man X5 as one of its attacks.

Mega Man 6[]

Wily Machine 6[]

Wily Machine 6 has 3 phases that are fought back to back. The first 2 phases involve the Wily Machine 6, and the 3rd phase involves the Wily Capsule.

Attack pattern[]

In the first phase, the floor will always scroll leftwards, which can make dodging either easier or harder as it affects Mega Man's movement, not the Wily Machine 6. The Wily Machine 6 moves by jumping from one side to the other in a repetitive pattern, slamming down and dealing great damage if Mega Man is caught underneath. In-between jumps, the Wily Machine 6 attacks by firing 3 blue projectiles, taking the form of disc-like orbs. These orbs are launched one-by-one in a spread: at a high off angle, loosely aimed at Mega Man's position, and a lower angle. The Wily Machine 6 always alternates between jumping and shooting projectiles.

After depleting the first energy gauge, the skull face is partially destroyed, revealing Dr. Wily at the controls. The general pattern of the Wily Machine 6 remains the same, but there are some slight differences. Every time the Wily Machine 6 jumps, the floor scrolls in the opposite direction. Wily Machine 6 is also no longer confined to jumping from side to side, and can jump shorter distances that target the middle of the screen. Wily Machine 6's projectile count has been reduced to just 1, however, with it being the second one that loosely aims at Mega Man's position.

Weaknesses[]

Both forms are weak to Silver Tomahawk, which does 4 damage and can defeat each form in 7 hits. Wily Machine 6 is also weak to Power Adaptor, and a fully-charged punch also does 4 damage. If Mega Man wants to save Silver Tomahawk for the second phase or even the Wily Capsule, Knight Crusher is a good alternative, doing 2 damage.

Wily Capsule[]

After the second form of the Wily Machine 6 is destroyed, Dr. Wily emerges inside the Wily Capsule, which is the remains of the Wily Machine 6.

Attack Pattern[]

As with previous Wily Capsules, this one simply appears in and out of the dark background, warping into position at a random area, though the Wily Capsule never teleports directly on top of Mega Man. The floor also stops moving by the time the Wily Capsule fight begins. Every time the Wily Capsule appears, it waits for a second before releasing 4 blue orbs out of its body. These orbs are all launched at once in the 4 cardinal directions, but shortly after their release, they will spiral either clockwise or counter-clockwise so one of the orbs will smack Mega Man. It usually depends on where the Wily Capsule is relative to Mega Man: if the Capsule is much higher up, the bottom-most orb will try to attack Mega Man, but if the Capsule is further away horizontally, the horizontal orbs will try to hit Mega Man from above.

Weaknesses[]

Interestingly, this Wily Capsule shares the same weakness table as the Wily Machine 6. With this in mind, it is possible to defeat all 3 phases with a full bar of Silver Tomahawk.

Aftermath[]

Upon destroying the Capsule, Dr. Wily gets knocked to the ground and gets on his knees, bowing to Mega Man in defeat once again. Rather than escaping, Dr. Wily actually gets captured and tied up in rope by Mega Man. He is then arrested and sentenced to prison for his crimes, where the only thing that he rules over is a prison cell, and at long last, the world is at peace.

Trivia[]

  • Wily Machine 6 is the only Wily Machine in the series that can be damaged anywhere in all of its forms, whereas most other Wily Machines often requires the player to attack a specific weak point, usually a cannon located somewhere or the cockpit itself.
  • The Wily Capsule is the only enemy/boss in the game that does not have artwork, and the first enemy/boss in the classic series that doesn't have artwork.
