The Highway Stage (ハイウェイステージ), named Central Highway in Mega Man Maverick Hunter X, is the Opening Stage from Mega Man X, its remake Mega Man Maverick Hunter X, and Mega Man Xtreme.
History[]
Mega Man X / Maverick Hunter X[]
The Highway Stage is a highway that is attacked by Mavericks in the beginning of the game. X goes there to start helping the Maverick Hunters fight Sigma's rebellion, only to be put in his place by Vile in a Ride Armor. Fortunately, Zero saves X and repels Vile, showing the rookie that he can indeed stand a chance before ordering him to fight Sigma's army to become stronger.
In Mega Man Maverick Hunter X, it is a highway in Abel City that is attacked by Mavericks. X and Vile battle at the end of this stage. As X, he is overpowered by Vile before Zero chases him off. As Vile, he defeats X before Zero runs away with X.
Mega Man Xtreme[]
In Mega Man Xtreme, the opening Stage is a complete digital reproduction of the Highway Stage. X mysteriously finds himself stuck in this data version of the Highway Stage and again fights Vile, this time managing to destroy him. He is then pulled out of the digital world by Middy, and begins to formulate a plan to fix the Mother Computer with him.

Mega Man X DiVE[]
The Highway is the first Story stage in Mega Man X DiVE, where RiCO introduces the Player to the game and how to control a Hunter Program. Due to program errors in the Deep Log, the stage has some changes, including rain in 1-2 and a moving truck segment in 1-4. The final boss of this stage is Maoh the Giant.

Other appearances[]
- In Mega Man X7, the second half of opening stage is the Highway, Zero investigating the disturbance caused by Axl, and then the two cross paths and decide to join forces to take down Mega Scorpio. This may be the same location as X1, because Zero said he was back here again.
- Although the highway itself doesn't appear in Mega Man ZX, Area D1-3 has layouts taken directly from portions of the Highway Stage.
Other media[]
- The Highway appeared in the Rockman X manga, serving a similar role to the original game. It is where X learned to use the Triangle Kick.
