Homing Sniper (ホーミングスナイパー Hōmingu Sunaipā) is Search Man's Special Weapon from Mega Man 8. When equipped, Mega Man shoots out a homing missile. By itself, a single Homing Sniper will travel in a straight line across the screen, but if an enemy is present, a cross-hair will appear over it and the Homing Sniper will follow the cross-hair. Homing Sniper can also be charged, enabling it to lock on and fire at several enemies in one shot.
Homing Sniper is Astro Man's weakness, hitting him with a single missile will cause him and his orbs to fall to the ground. If the player charges Homing Sniper, Astro Man will stop dead in his tracks and be unable to attack, so long as there is a cross-hair over him. Using Homing Sniper in general against Astro Man can be very useful as it can also prevent him from casting Astro Crush if he gets struck or locked-on. It is also possible for the player to constantly pelt him repeatedly with Homing Snipers until he is defeated, but it takes some practice to perform it correctly.
