Irregular Hunter Rockman X (イレギュラーハンターロックマンX) is a manga by Shigeto Ikehara based on the first Rockman X game. It was serialized in Kodansha's Deluxe BomBom from the July 1994 issue until the April 1995 issue when the magazine ceased publication. It was also collected into two tankōbon volumes at the time, and on December 2024 it became available digitally.[1] This is the only Rockman X series manga by Ikehara, although he later wrote one-shots based on Rockman X2 and X3 for the Kodansha Manga Hyakka books.

Summary[]

The story differs from the original game in that VAVA is ostensibly the ringleader of the rebellion, and Sigma is portrayed as the commander of the Irregular Hunter troops, while behind the scenes he is the shadowy ringleader who directs the rebellion. Also, only some of the Hunters from the original game join the rebellion, while the rest are tasked with suppressing the rebellion as Hunters. As a result, all of the boss characters who fight and are destroyed by X in the original game fight together with him on missions, or even fight each other.

With the cessation of publication of the magazine Deluxe BomBom, the ending of the story was more or less wrapped up, but the manga ends without a direct confrontation between X and Sigma, with Sigma and VAVA escaping. There are also some unresolved foreshadowings and mysteries, such as the existence of a mysterious person (presumably Dr. Cain) who has access to top secret files about X, and the reason why Sigma is planning to rebel.
