Mechaniloid

"Maverick Mechaniloid" is an unnamed Mechaniloid model that went Maverick during the events of the prequel OVA for Mega Man Maverick Hunter X, The Day of Σ.

Appearance[]

The mechaniloid was gargantuan and had four legs, and overall resembled a spider. It presumably was utilized in construction-related tasks due to the yellow and black stripe markings, a construction claw-like device which it used to grab people, as well as the treads on its legs. Besides physical attacks and its claw, its only known on-board weapons were laser beams that were powerful to slice through cables and even police cars, as well as leaving fissures behind. In addition, it possessed armor that was sturdy enough that it largely shook off a full-power charge blast from the X-Buster beyond temporarily knocking it down to the ground. However, the legs might have been at least weak enough to be damaged by the Zero Buster. The mechaniloid was also shown to have enough physical strength that it outright resisted having its legs frozen and being harpooned, as well as enough physical speed and agility to prevent Zero from getting a clean shot. It's only known weakness was the main generator that was located in its undercarriage, although it can compensate for this weakness if it grabbed a victim with its claw beforehand.

History[]

This maverick mechaniloid was attacking a building during the leadup to Sigma's rebellion, causing the 17th Elite Unit of the Maverick Hunters, including the Maverick Hunter leader Sigma, to congregate at the area to subdue it, while X was to be airdropped so he could take it down via his X-Buster. After X seemingly felled it with a Charge Shot, Sigma ordered for Chill Penguin company to "commence operation" (presumably retrieving the mechaniloid), but it ended up rising back up without even a slight sign of damage. In addition, Zero's group attempted to target the generator, but it moved too fast to get a good lock on it. Eventually, Chill Penguin utilized ice particles to freeze its legs in place while the rest of his company used harpoons to pin it down, although it gradually resisted before freeing itself with its lasers, with Sigma jumping out of the way in time while X arrived to back the hunters up. The mechaniloid then took a hostage and proceeded to try and flee, although Zero, angered at the mechaniloid picking on his friends, shot it in the leg, disabling it, although it held its captive hunter in front of X, causing the latter to hesitate in shooting the generator, before Sigma interfered and cut down the generator.

It was later revealed during Sigma's debriefing to Dr. Cain that this was simply the latest in a huge increase of maverick activity, and was at least one of the first mechaniloids to be affected. Presumably, this was not the first time they've dealt with this exact situation, as a holographic version of the event was utilized to train various Maverick Hunters such as Zero. Eventually, the Maverick Hunters deduced that the mechaniloid was hacked by an unknown party.

The next day, another mechaniloid of the same model was hacked and running amok (presumably in very close proximity to the Maverick Hunter base, as one of the base's Navigators yelled "What!? That close!?" when learning of its location), with it later being revealed that this was a diversion so that Sigma could bust Vile out. X and Zero were originally dispatched to deal with the maverick (with Zero expressing suspicion that the close timing between the outbreaks was not a coincidence), although they were later given new orders to return to base due to Vile escaping the detention block and needing to track him, and later to try and locate Sigma due to his going MIA near the missile silo. It is unknown whether the Maverick Hunters managed to subdue the mechaniloid before Sigma launched all the silo's missiles at Abel City.
