Hello, I just posted a translation of the X6 boss Shield Sheldon's in-game quotes in the Shield Sheldon page, as they were left in Japanese. I was wondering if you could confirm their accuracy? (I had to use Google translate and don't speak Japanese). Thanks!
I apologized about the Rising Fire art, I mistook it for official art! A user on that particular tweet thread suggested moving the wiki away from Fandom and becoming its own entity, while still keeping the content we have so far - is that something you'd be interssiend in? DragonFaku if you see this I'd like you to weigh in on this too.
Dunno. I don't remember when (probably sometime between 2010-2012), but I remember proposing something similar to the Mega Man Network in its wiki when it was small, moving content from MMKB to their wiki (after checking and cleaning it up first) to save them time, but the members didn't seem to be interested due to those reasons. After it closed I decided to focus on this wiki.
It seems they may be open for discussion though they said if they restart their wiki they'd most likely use their original content as a base. It would be a massive shame to have this wiki overshadowed or erased simply to start a new one, regardless of flaws. We should keep conversations going and see what we can come up with.
I don't think it's a good idea, more so because it will take colossals ammounts of time to move all the articles from one place to another. This wiki has easy access where users can add information that avid megaman fans might had missed for being too obscure or rather trivial. I remember when i found out about the Mega Armor for Zero in X4 and i was surprised nobody mentioned it before in the wiki.
If this is related to your mistake with the image you took from the Rockman Corner, just accept the mistake, learn from it and next time you need to upload an image, first investigate the source of it, and of course, leave the source of where you found it.
I was unaware of this situation, but if you can still talk to the creator of that Rising Fire art, ammend the situation, apologize and don't repeat the same mistake. This wiki shouldn't die just for a mistake.
I'm not sure how the process would go or how much time or effort it will take (and this is all hypothetical), but this is an idea I've also sort of had in making it so this wiki stands on its own two feet. This can go either way mind you, having the FANDOM staff to back us up if we need it is a huge help, but we may also find people that play the same role as well.
In terms of the mistake, I made an error. Whoops! But we fixed it, but the subject of someone making an entirely NEW Mega Man wiki to replace this one came up, which is why we're opening discussion for this. We certainly don't want this wiki to be overshadowed or replaced.
I have gotten permission from both Reploid 21XX and Protodude now to use their images so long as we give them credit, so maybe this will all blow over next week, but it's something we could keep in mind. becoming out own entity would be an interesting endeavor, lol...
Hello, I'm Joey. I have been talking to TornadoMan.EXE over twitter recently! I wanted to talk about you guys moving from fandom and why it is a good idea, Fandom has been changing from a traditional wiki site to a click bait and ad based site, its getting closer to social media applications like amino, while not exactly a bad thing, this brings down the reputation of the whole brand. Fandom pushing out major limitations on what can be done to pages on a site and also forcing their own videos onto the site has been a problem for various wiki owners from what I've heard from. Fandom's lack of security has lead to more populated wikis being the victim of vandalization with no way of telling who did it. Fandom is more so a brand than a platform now, and it is looking to become more of a tattered place.
So, why am I here.
Well, I've been scrolling through this wiki for at least four years of my life on an almost daily basis and I wanted to see it enter a more open environment where it can stand on its own, gather attention from not just old mega man fans but new ones too, along with that there are people dedicated to all parts of the franchise, wether it be art, plot or the games themselves! Mega Man is going to have a long dedicated following and that will rise in the near future, Fandom uses a MediaWiki form released in 2012, it is a mildly outdated site, now is a time to update and reach out with connections from the community.
I propose that the Mega Man Knowledge Base create a patreon and twitter account, explaining their cause to go and preserve the MMKB wiki and fork it over to a new website hosted with a brand new MediaWiki format, this site would have all the content of the original, but much more cleaned up. If you are able to directly talk to people in the community for information such as Number20, Protodude, Reploid 21XX, you may be able to update the new wiki to have updated and more accurate info. One thing I'd personally like to see is brand new high quality scans for character images, tabs on character and game pages for easier navigation, an updated timeline page where you can follow the chronological publication of all Mega Man media, updated front page with twitter news feed, log of new edits, and other features that could be suggested by community members.
I also understand that not everyone on MMKB's staff has the time, dedication or experience to handle a patreon, fork the site over to a new one, or edit and make new extensions... But there are a lot of Mega Man fans that I think would be very interested, I will do my part to help spread awareness to the MMKB moving sites if you are all interested in doing this. Searching for a PR manager should be your first mission if you do want to move from MMKB, and also an easier place to talk and discuss this like discord would be nice.
Well, I will leave my word:
I met the MMKB fandom in 2012, reading articles from Mega Man X2, but I didn't create my account until 2019.
I was already in other fandom, one of them was the Inazuma Eleven (wiki), In 2019 I didn't know how to edit the wiki well, in fact, I didn't know how to edit it was nothing on the fandom. I learned by looking at several wiki, such as the Grand Chase Brasil.
I remember the first posts here, they were about the Battle Network's conceptual arts and I didn't post [category]. But in 2019 to 2020 I grew up in the editing part of fandom, even though I was a hardhead and had high and low posts. (laughs)
It would be a shame if the wiki was moved or deleted to start from 0.
In fact, she who gave knowledge and interest in playing Mega Man.
And the new editor font fandom wiki is still undergoing updates, in this case the "UCP".
I know in my head what I posted here on the Megaman wiki, if you want, I can list some images or articles that maybe I did not give credit or mention to delete the images. (To avoid having people asking for credits or mentioning ugly things at MMKB)
And we all know that moderators and administrators have their jobs outside the internet, and they are not always available to attend to all requests.
I just want the wiki to continue and each time I get better at changing it more and more.
What I mean by moving is just to bring all the articles over to a new site that allows for more creative freedom, it's not like the fandom wiki would be deleted. It would just be outdated with updated articles, everything would basically be the same besides improvements to the site to make it better. I'm only suggesting this because now I have a prompt for it, me giving out the proposal of moving to a new wiki isn't based upon the uncredited image issue a couple days ago, It was only my prompt to be able to talk to other members about this. Everybody would have the same privaleges such as moderator or admin, you can do the same amount of things as you can on the old wiki, it's just about updating for newer times. The mods and admins here have other things in their life, but I was hoping that maybe if the MMKB moved to a place where it could gain a wider audience, people would be more involved with it and have it be wide spread. Im sorry if my proposal made anyone worried that this place would be deleted, ultimately it isn't my choice, I'm just suggesting that it could be a good idea.
