For his anime counterpart, see Magnus Gauss (anime).

Mr. Gauss, known as Gauss Magnets (ガウス・マグネッツ Gausu Magunettsu) in Japan, was the CEO of Gauss Inc. ("Gauss Concern" (ガウスコンツェルン Gausu Kontserun) in Japan) who performed a variety of illegal activities, such as hijacking a plane. He first appears in Mega Man Battle Network 2 as the Gospel operator of MagnetMan.EXE. He is frequently mentioned by his daughter Tesla, the current operator of MagnetMan. Count Zap is his brother.

Gauss appears to be an elderly man, he has gray hair, gray beard, black eyebrows and blue eyes. Magnus wears a half-colored suit (the half is red and the other side is black), white undershirt, gray tie and black shoes.

History[]

Mega Man Battle Network 2[]

Gauss appears on the airplane Lan is riding back from Netopia and attempts to steal a program that was on it. Before battling he speaks briefly of his past, stating that he hates society because no one helped him when he was young. His family was poor, and his brother Jack (who is Count Zap) was taken in by a rich family, and later his parents became ill and died, leaving Gauss alone. He then started to work hard to become rich and get revenge on society. Afterwards, he joined Gospel to change that society. MegaMan has to fight his NetNavi, MagnetMan. After his defeat, Gauss is arrested after the entomologist discovered that he was behind the plot. Lan and MegaMan then witness him being escorted out of the airport by security (Gauss also weakly pleading for forgiveness), and felt some pity for him.

Unlike his video game counterpart, Gauss is the one who left their family and not Count Zap. After their mother died, he married into the Gauss family and changed his family name (in the NT Warrior English dub, he ran away after an argument with his parents, with no mention of marriage).

Gauss's connection is Count Zap is explicitly clear and fleshed out in the anime. Despite having holding a menacing composer and serious demeanor, Gauss is actually an eccentric and dramatic man who cross dresses in an elaborate dress when he is under duress.

Trivia[]

  • Gauss' name is most likely a reference to the outdated metric unit of magnetic field strength, the gauss, named in honor of German physicist Carl Friedrich Gauss, most famous for his extensive work on the mathematical description of magnetism as well being the first person to directly measure the strength of earth's magnetic field. To contrast, his daughter's name is named after the modern metric unit of it.
  • In Battle Network 2, Gauss' brother, Jack, was only mentioned by Gauss with his first name. Later in the game, the QuizKing quiz reveals his full name is "Jack Electricity" (Jack Elecitel in Japan). This Japanese name was revealed to be Count Zap's real name in extra material.
    • In the same quiz, Gauss' last name was revealed in the Japanese version [5]. However, in the English version, the Magnets name was replaced with Gauss. Thus acting as if Gauss is the family name [6]. The Japanese Battle Network 5 wrote Gauss' full name [7] but once again left out in English [8]. This first-last name swap was continued in the NT Warrior anime English dub, with Gauss being his last name, and his first name being Magnus.
