"If you're just going to waste energy, give it to me. I'll drain you dry!"
—Noble Mandrago, Mega Man Zero 4

Noble Mandrago (ノービル・マンドラゴ) is one of the Einherjar Eight Warriors in Mega Man Zero 4. She is a Mutos Reploid based on the mandrake plant, who occupies an Underground Forest of artificial plants to create erosion on Area Zero.

History

Noble Mandrago originally used solar-powered nanomachines to help preserve and regenerate the world's damaged environments. However, Dr. Weil brainwashed her into believing that nature must be dominated in order to truly thrive, even if it means occasional destruction.

Noble Mandrago first appears alongside the rest of the Einherjar, asking who Zero is, to which Mino Magnus and Tech Kraken reply. She questions why humans would choose nature outside of Neo Arcadia rather than stay under Weil's rule.

Following this encounter, Mandrago occupies an underground forest of artificial plants built to erode away at Area Zero. Once Zero arrives, she belittles him for the futility of his attempt to save nature and instead offers to take his energy for herself. The two fight, and she is destroyed.

Mandrago later fights Zero again within Ragnarok, having been resurrected. She claims the world is doomed to perish since its inception, and that Ragnarok's fall is the seed that will bring a new change to this world. She is defeated again.

Strategy

Noble Mandrago fights Zero in a room covered with earth, and she can drill through the earth to appear anywhere she likes. If the weather is Sunny, she will use 'Photosynthesis' after all of her attack phases to recover health and become immune for a short time. She mostly lets her Mechaniloids do the work, while she weakens her foe with goo. Although Mandrago has no elemental weakness, with some skill and practice, Zero can use a strike from the Zero Knuckle to pull her out of the walls, ceiling and floors as she sticks her head out to fire goo. Doing so causes her to bounce of the walls and take a decent amount of damage.

Attacks

Attack Description Notes
Spread Seeds Launches 2-4 plant seeds that deal damage and can grow into small plant-like Mechaniloids. Each seed has a different behavior depending on where they land:
  • Walls or Ceilings: Small flowers that occasionally fire a series of energy bullets at Zero.
  • Ground: Flytrap-like plants that trap Zero on contact and drain his energy.

These seeds can be destroyed by the Zero Knuckle before they germinate; in doing so Zero throws the seed over his shoulder, potentially causing minor damage to Mandrago. The Mechaniloids can still be destroyed after they are armed.

Spread Nectar Disappears by drilling through the floor, and appears randomly at either the floor or the ceiling and shoots three blobs of goo at Zero. This does not cause damage, but getting hit reduces Zero's traction (similar to walking on ice), prevents him from climbing walls, and summons several Appnets to attack him. Mandrago can be yanked out of the ground with the Zero Knuckle and will take a small amount of bonus damage if hurled into a wall, but doing so is not recommended since this attack pattern is simple to dodge and prevents her from healing.
Photosynthesis Recovers a small amount of health and becomes immune during the phase. Only used if the weather is Sunny. Mandrago will use this after all attack phrases and due to her being immune while casting this, the animation cannot be cancelled by any of Zero's attacks.
Spinning Spins like a top and moves back and forth across the floor at high speeds.
EX Skill: Spinning Root Spins horizontally on the upper part of the screen, seeks out Zero and tries to land on him, sending shockwaves across the floor.
