For the armor parts, see Armor Parts. |
Parts (パーツ Pātsu) or Chips (プチップ) are items from the Mega Man and Mega Man X series that can be obtained and equipped by the player's character.
Classic Mega Man series[]
In classic Mega Man, the first ever Part-like item is the Energy Balancer in Mega Man IV. Parts are upgrades that can be developed with P Chips or Screws at the Dr. Light's Laboratory or Big Eddie. In the later games such as Mega Man 8 , Mega Man 11, and Mega Man & Bass, the Parts are greatly expanded and have their own classification.
Mega Man Xtreme 2[]
The Parts Shop can be accessed via the Stage Select screen. There are three kinds of Parts: Common Parts equippable by either character, and X or Zero Parts which are specific to one of the two characters. Each Part requires a certain amount of DNA Souls before it unlocks for development. Once the player meets a requirement, Iris informs them that they "have created a new Part" upon entry, allowing it for purchase.
Each character can only equip a limited amount of Parts at a time: X can equip four, Zero can equip three, and X in his full Armor Parts can only equip two. If one character is using a Common Part, the other cannot equip it. Additionally, Parts unlocked and/or purchased carry over from one playthrough to the next. Listed below are all the possible Parts, along with the costs for unlocking and purchasing them.

Notes[]
- Because the Opening Stage boss Skullhead always grants 200 DNA Souls upon defeat, the following parts are always unlocked in a normal playthrough:
- Barrier Extender (10 DNA Souls)
- Energy Saver (25 DNA Souls)
- Super Recover (50 DNA Souls)
- Speed Shot (for X) / Saber Plus 1 (for Zero) (200 DNA Souls)
- The Super Recover part must be equipped before an Energy Capsule is visible on-screen. Otherwise, the player will only recover 2 or 8 Energy instead of 3 or 12.
- The X-Buster Plus and Saber Plus parts can be stacked on X and Zero, respectively, for a total damage boost of %95.
- If Buster/Saber Plus parts are stacked, X's shots are always red and Zero's saber is always pink.
- If either Buster Plus is stacked with Speed Shot, X's shots always uses the Buster Plus part color.
Mega Man X5[]
The Parts system in Mega Man X5 is complex, and depends on the player's Boss Level. Whenever the player defeats a boss at Lv. 04 to Lv. 07, Alia's debriefing offers two options: Weapon + Life or Weapon + Energy. The Life option increases a character's max Life Energy, and the Energy option increases their max Weapon Energy. However, these boosts take time to develop and are only applied to the next character to complete/exit a stage, and not the one who just defeated the boss (e.g. if X defeats a boss, and the player next completes/exits a stage as Zero, then Zero is the one to receive the stat boost).
Then, whenever the player defeats a boss at Lv. 08 or higher, Alia's options are Weapon + Life + or Weapon + Energy +. This means that the player receives a Part along with the chosen energy upgrade. What Part they receive depends on which boss they defeated and whether they chose Life + or Energy +, meaning a player can only take one of two Parts from each boss, for a total of eight Parts in a single playthrough. Since the game's bosses do not start at Lv. 08, this also means the player would have to deliberately waste time to make the boss levels rise to get all eight Parts. Like the Life and Energy upgrades, Parts take time to develop and only become available once the player has completed/exited two stages.
In the Parts menu on the Stage Select screen, Parts can be equipped to any character loadout except for the Gaea Armor. X and Zero can have four Parts equipped each, while X's Armors can have only two. Black Zero already has the effects of Shot Eraser, Shock Buffer and Virus Buster, as well as an unmentioned 50% Weapon Energy boost, which do not stack effects with equipped Parts. Listed below are all possible Parts and which bosses they correspond to.

Mega Man X6[]
The Parts system in Mega Man X6 is different from the one in X5, and substantially less complicated. Parts are found by rescuing certain Injured Reploids which hold them. Each stage has two Reploids who grant a Life Up and an Energy Up (which are immediately given to the character who rescues them), along with at least three Reploids who carry equippable Parts. If a Nightmare Virus infects a Reploid holding a Part, their Part is lost and becomes unattainable. A thorough player can collect every Part in a single playthrough, unlike in X5.
There are four types of Parts: Normal Parts which both characters can equip, specific Parts that only X or Zero can equip, and Limited Parts that can be activated once per stage via the Sub Screen. X and Zero can both equip a maximum of five Parts - one Limited and four of any other kind - but the player must raise their Hunter Rank before being able to equip Parts. A character's Hunter Rank is raised by collecting Nightmare Souls, which are found by defeating Nightmare Viruses or bosses. The number of Nightmare Souls for each Hunter Rank is listed below:
- Rank D (Default): No Parts can be equipped.
- Rank C (200 Souls): No Parts can be equipped.
- Rank B (300 Souls): No Parts can be equipped.
- Rank A (500 Souls): One Part can be equipped.
- Rank SA (900 Souls): Two Parts can be equipped.
- Rank GA (1200 Souls): Two Parts and a Limited Part can be equipped.
- Rank PA (5000 Souls): Three Parts and a Limited Part can be equipped.
- Rank UH (9999 Souls): Four Parts and a Limited Part can be equipped.
Like in X5, Black Zero automatically has three parts equipped by default - Shock Buffer, Saber Plus and Shot Eraser - which do not stack effects with the maximum of five parts allowed for Zero. Listed below are all the Parts and which Reploids hold them in each stage.

Mega Man X7[]
Each character has their own unique set of upgrades that are unlocked with Power Up Chips (パワーアップチップ). Power Up Chips are collected by rescuing Injured Reploids; each stage has two Reploids holding one each. If a Reploid with a Chip dies, it is lost and becomes unattainable. If the player rescues one and completes/exits the stage, Alia gives the chance to equip any Chips as Power, Speed, or Special upgrades, but those of the same type must be upgraded in order. When distributing power-ups, it's important to read the descriptions since they change depending on character.
Additionally, if the player completes the game and then starts a new game from the same save file, all previous Chips are retained, making it possible to max out all upgrades for each character.
Mega Man X7 Chips charts[]
Mega Man X8[]
In Mega Man X8, the Chips covers all upgrades of previous games except the Armor Parts, including Life Ups, Sub Tanks, Parts and weapons, which are all developed by collecting Metals. Some Chips need to find specific Rare Metal before they can be unlocked.
Mega Man Zero series[]
In the Mega Man Zero series, Zero mainly relies on Cyber-elves to increase his abilities, but he still utilizes Chips for other purposes. In the first two games, there are only three Element Chips, which can be equipped to endow a element to Zero's charged attack and EX Skills, and more chips have been added to the last two games.
Mega Man ZX series[]
Chips are the only power-up items in the Mega Man ZX series, designated in the Item B tab in the items screen. These Chips have no typing or limitations, and any of them can be equipped simultaneously.
