DiVE is a 2D action-platformer made with a modified engine from Mega Man Maverick Hunter X. While the gameplay is largely similar to that of a typical side-scrolling Mega Man game, certain aspects are changed in that the player can attack enemies from all angles with an optional automatic aim system (similar to that of Mega Man X7), enemies don't drop any recovery items, and rather than a character using their own primary weapons along with Maverick/Robot Master Special Weapons, one has a primary weapon and a secondary weapon, ranging from busters, close combat weapons, rifles, mortars, and sprayers. A single-stage from a mainline game is split up into five different levels with a boss at the end of each of them, i.e., the Highway Stage from Mega Man X is split up into five chapters. Each level completion will reward players' stars, which have special requirements to achieve. Additional rewards can be earned when the player managed to get a specific number of stars on each stage.

Game Modes
Story - The single-player campaign story mode missions.

Co-op - Set of missions for 2 or more players at the same time.

Event - Special missions where the main objective is to reach the highest rank possible in order to obtain specific rewards.

Challenge - It divides into two sub-modes.

* Boss Challenge - Boss refights that will award the player with materials and Memory for weapons and chips.

* Jakob Orbital Elevator - Players must clear out waves of enemies on each floor with each character having a limited amount of uses. Some floors contain boss fights reminiscent of X Challenge.

1v1 Practice - 2 players fight against each other.

1v1 Ranked Match Simulation - 2 players select 3 characters to fight against each other.

1v1 Ranked Match - Same as the above except with a ranking system.

3v3 Combat - A game mode in the Closed Beta Test, where 6 players fight against each other in teams. This mode was removed for the Open Beta.

Memory Points
Memory Points are special data used to upgrade either the player's character or the weapon the player uses. Once enough Memory Points accumulated, players can Rank Up the character/weapon to a higher Star Rank, granting the player increased power as well as unlocking additional Passive Skills the player can unlock. Players can earn more Memory Points either through gameplay

The following chart is the ammount of Weapon/Character Patch Programs player can earn through the Capsule system, the current pricing of Memory Points as well as the rewards for selling it.

Skills
Rockman X DiVE makes a radical departure in the gameplay department compared to the traditional MegaMan X gameplay. All characters in this game had their own specific skills attached to them. For example, Zero has his Ryuenjin skill while Black Zero has a Raikosen skill. Players can also attach several skills such as DiVE Trigger and Chips which allows the player to customize and use additional attacks to get an edge in battle.

Dive Triggers
Dive Triggers are very powerful skills that can only be used once every stage. The player can equip 2 Dive Triggers attached to the player's main and sub-weapon respectively. Dive Triggers cannot be recovered or recharged once used even after the player revived themselves mid-stage.

Chip
Chips are special skills that the player can equip to their weapons for either additional damage, or support, acting as the game's version of Special Weapons. Each Chip has can be leveled up as well as upgraded to a higher Star Rank. Players can also increase the weapon's effectiveness by increasing the chip's "Analysis Rate." In addition, certain Chips can only be equipped to a specific weapon type. The special skills granted by the chips were automatcally used when certain criterias were fulfilled, such as firing the weapon, or getting hit by the enemy. Once the Weapon gauge has depleted, the chip will enter cooldown mode which will refill the gauge allowing the player to use it again after a certain time.

Rockman X DiVE is an action-platforming video game in the Mega Man X series developed by Capcom Taiwan for iOS and Android. While mainly focusing on the X series, DiVE features elements from across the franchise including characters, stages, enemies and abilities as the player helps RiCO and ViA fix the Deep Log.

A closed beta test was held from September 12-16, 2019, before the full game was released in Japan and other territories on March 24, 2020. The game is confirmed to be coming to North America.[2]

Story

The story occurs within the cyberspace in a place called "Deep Log", which contains game data information and the memories of the players having fun with the games. There is a Deep Log for each game and player in the world, and they have been stored and managed for decades. After all this time, corruption and other problems may cause some program errors.

The Deep Log from the Mega Man X series, administrated by RiCO, is having unknown errors that are causing data corruption. It is the job of the "Player" to repair the data and get rid of the errors in order to protect the Deep Log, using Hunter Programs to get rid of the Irregular Data.

Characters

X DiVE features a wide array of heroes and villains from the X series as well several other characters from across the franchise. At launch, longtime playable characters Mega Man X, Zero, and Axl from the mainline games are joined by Alia and Pallette, previously playable in Mega Man X8, Vile, previously playable in Mega Man Maverick Hunter X, and Cinnamon, Steel Massimo, Marino and Ferham from Mega Man X: Command Mission; Cinnamon, Massimo, and Marino debuting in their first side-scrolling game and Ferham is making her first playable appearance. As of May 14, Layer, the last playable character from X8, and original Mega Man characters Mega Man, Proto Man, Roll, and Super Mega Man have been added to the game.

Supporting characters include the Player, RiCO, and ViA, the current and former administrators of Deep Log respectively. Guest supporting characters include Rush, Mega Man’s canine companion from the original series.

Gameplay

Trivia

  • DiVE’s story of the player going into a digital world as avatars of characters from the series to combat a threat that uses settings and enemies from older games is similar to Mega Man Xtreme’s story, where X sends an avatar of himself into the Mother Computer’s network to stop an unknown enemy from resurrecting old Mavericks.
  • So far Rockman X DiVE is the franchise's game with the most "Meta" storyline. The game itself recognizes Mega Man as a game franchise, and RiCO and ViA often talks directly to the player, breaking the 4th wall.
  • Although considered part of the Mega Man X series, Rockman X DiVE incorporates elements from other series as well.
    • Examples include Area A from Mega Man ZX and the Floating Ruins from Mega Man ZX Advent.
    • Additionally, before the game's release, it was possible to spot a screenshot of Impact Man's stage from Mega Man 11 during RiCO's introductory trailer.[3]. The player can also see this screenshot while booting up the game for the first time. As of May 21, MegaMan, Protoman, and Roll are added to the game as well.
  • Iris is the only playable character introduced in Rockman X DiVE thus far who does not use recycled audio.
    • Although Iris was implemented as a playable character on June 11th 2020, the plan to record new dialogue for her was delayed by complications related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, Yūko Mizutani, Iris's original voice actress, passed away on May 17th 2016, necessitating a recast. The update notes that recorded dialogue for Iris wil be implemented at a later date.
  • Among the action/platform genre titles in the Mega Man franchise, Rockman X DiVE offers the largest roster of playable characters, with 14 characters (21 including exclusive variations of existing characters). Prior to this game, Mega Man Powered Up had the largest roster, with 11 playable characters.
    • While the number of transformations in Mega Man ZX Advent does surpass the number of playable characters in both DiVE and Command Mission, they're transformations of a single character. In this light, as far as individual characters are concerned, DiVE still offers the largest roster.
      • As of May 21, XDive has surpassed the number of playable characters in ZX Advent's roster.
  • Certain English words are censored in the chat due to their offensive nature. The system will also censor some parts of the words which also results Massimo's name being censored.
