| This article is about Roll's Marvel vs. Capcom appearance. For others, see Roll (disambiguation). |
Roll is a character in the Mega Man series, appearing in the Marvel vs. Capcom series. She first appeared as a playable character in Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes, returning for Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes.
History[]
Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes[]
Roll appears as a secret character. She is the only unique unlockable character, in that she is not a palette swap. She can be selected with the following code:
- Arcade: Highlight Zangief and press the following: Left (2), Down (2), Right (2), Down (2), Left (2), Up, Right, Up (2), Right. Roll's portrait will appear next to Mega Man.
- PlayStation: Beat Arcade as Mega Man, and then press Right upon highlighting him.
Roll is a weaker version of Mega Man, included as a "joke character". Ironically, Roll is sometimes considered one of the most effective characters to use against the final boss of Marvel vs. Capcom, Onslaught — her diminutive size negates Onslaught's massive beam attack, while her attacks can easily strike him.
Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes[]
Roll returns as an unlockable playable character in this game. Like in the previous game, she's still considered to be a "joke character", even owning her own special lowly "Roll Tier" in the bottom of most community tier lists.[1]
Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3[]
Although Roll doesn't make a playable appearance in Marvel vs. Capcom 3, she appears as a collectable card in the free DLC Mode, Heroes and Heralds, alongside Mega Man, X, Dr. Wily, and Vile. Her primary and secondary abilities are granting the user the ability to automatically fill up the Hyper Combo Gauge by simply crouching. She also appears in Nova's ending as a member of the new Mega Nova Corps, alongside Mega Man, Proto Man, Beat, and Zero.
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars[]
Roll in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom.
Roll made her first serious playable appearance in the related crossover fighting game Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. Unlike previous fighting game appearances, in this game Roll is totally unique and not merely a slower version of Mega Man.
In Roll's Arcade ending, after defeating Yami she finds herself transported to a mysterious run-down laboratory of giant, menacing-looking robots (namely Vector from Star Gladiator and Huitzil from Darkstalkers). She finds a computer and reactivates the robots, converting them into cleaning machines to help her around Dr. Light's Laboratory. Mega Man and Dr. Light are shown looking on in shock.
Moveset[]
Marvel vs. Capcom series[]
Roll is a notoriously weak character, being only included in the games as a "joke character". She is a weaker version of Mega Man who has similar moves, but slower movement and lower attack power.
Command Normals[]
| Name | Input | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Wall Jump | Air → | Roll jumps off the wall behind her. |
| Kick Slide | ↓ + H.Kick | Roll performs a sliding kick. |
| Throw | →/← + H.Punch | Roll grabs the opponent and kicks them away. |
Special Moves[]
| Name | Input | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Roll Buster | ↓ ↘ → + Punch | Roll fires a large shot forwards. Can be used midair. |
| Flower Bomb | → ↓ ↘ + Punch | Roll throws a bouquet of flowers that explodes on hit. |
| Eddie Reserve | ↓ ↙ ← + Kick | Roll summons Eddie to give her a Special Weapon. Light version gives her Mega Ball, Medium gives her Tornado Hold, and Heavy gives her Leaf Shield. |
| Item Attack | ↓ ↙ ← + Punch | Roll uses the Special Weapon that Eddie has given her; the default weapon at the start of the match is Tornado Hold. Mega Ball drops to the floor for her to kick, Tornado Hold shoots a fan to cause a vertical tornado, and Leaf Shield surrounds Roll with a barrier before flying forwards. |
Hyper Combos[]
| Name | Input | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Rush Drill | → ↘ ↓ + 2 Kicks | Roll transforms Rush into a drill tank, riding him forwards. |
| Beat Plane | ↓ ↙ ← + 2 Kicks | Roll transforms Beat into a plane, riding him in any direction the player presses. Punches drop fireballs, and Kicks shoot missiles. |
| Hyper Roll | → ↘ ↓ + 2 Punches | Roll fuses with her support robots into the giant Hyper Roll, which shoots electricity and missiles. Mashing buttons causes more hits. |
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom[]
Though Roll is much more unique and has more tools than her Marvel vs. Capcom appearances, she is still not considered a very powerful character due to her short attack range and weak damage output. She does have a powerful assist, which can be useful. She uses her Roll Swing broom and other household items for attacks.
Command Normals[]
| Name | Input | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Throw | →/← + H.Punch | Roll grabs the opponent and knocks them away with her broom. |
Special Moves[]
| Name | Input | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Roll Power Up | ↓ ↙ ← + Attack | Roll charges her broom, making it deal more damage. It also powers up the next Special Move she uses, consuming the charge. |
| Roll Swing | ↓ ↘ → + Attack | Roll swings her broom horizontally. Can be used midair, and reflects projectiles. Charged version causes wall bounce. |
| Roll Splash | → ↓ ↘ + Attack | Roll throws a bucket of water. Button strength determines the arc and distance of the water. On whiff, it creates a small puddle of water that trips opponents who walk over it. Charged version throws water horizontally across the screen. |
| Roll Mop Up | ← → + Attack | Roll rushes forward while cleaning the floor with her broom. Mashing the button causes her to stop and rapidly scrub the floor, hitting OTG opponents. Charged version is faster, deals more hits, and has a fire effect. |
Hyper Combos[]
| Name | Input | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Roll Down Time | ↓ ↙ ← + 2 Attacks | Roll summons a glowing orb from the top of the screen. If it touches Roll or any robot character, it heals that character. If it touches anyone else, it staggers and does not heal them. |
| Roll Mop Up Turbo | ← → + 2 Attacks | Roll rushes forward while cleaning the floor with her broom, dealing increased damage. If initiated with Roll on top of a puddle, she cleans the puddle to gain a 50% damage increase for the rest of the match. |
| Oh. No. You. Didn't! | Level 3: → ↓ ↘ + 2 Attacks |
Roll sweeps hard enough to create a fire. On hit, the opponent lights on fire and begins fleeing, until Roll lifts a comically giant bucket of water and throws it at them, consuming them in a tidal wave. If the opponent is OTG, Roll simply sweeps them on fire for high damage. |
Victory poses[]
In Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes, the player can select Roll's victory pose by pressing specific buttons. The pose is random if no button is pressed, the ones selected with the weak and medium attacks having a 3/16 chance of being selected, while the poses from the strong attacks have a 2/16 chance.[2]

Trivia[]
- Roll's theme in Marvel vs. Capcom is a remix of her special ending theme song from Mega Man Battle & Chase entitled "Kaze yo Tsutaete".
- When performing a Super Jump, her dress flies up for one frame of animation before quickly being shoved back down by Roll, who then exclaims "Ecchi" which loosely translates to lewd or dirty.
