Rolling (ローリング), also known as Roll,[1] is an evasive maneuver used by Axl in the Mega Man X series.

Description[]

In Mega Man X7, Axl's roll is performed by pressing the Dash button twice, dashing during another dash. He can still fire most weapons while rolling (excluding the G-Launcher), and gains brief invulnerability to enemy attacks. It can be upgraded with Power-Up Chips into the Rolling Attack, which deals damage to enemies on contact.

In Mega Man X8, Axl's roll is performing by pressing the Dash button while holding Down. This means it can be performed from a neutral position, rather than requiring a dash first. Unlike in Mega Man X7, Axl can no longer fire weapons while rolling and his invulnerability time is reduced.

If Axl's Action Trigger fails in Mega Man X: Command Mission, he performs Rolling Axl,[2] a roll followed by a shot attack to his target at only 30% power.

Tactical Roll[]

Tactical Roll (戰術翻滾 originally "Tactical rolling"[3]), known as Axl Rolling (アクセルローリング) in Japan, is one of Axl's Active Skills in Mega Man X DiVE. When used, Axl rolls forward and gains temporary invulnerability. The Player can improve the skill by equipping one of three Skill Cards that becomes available by increasing Axl's rank:

  • Tactical Acceleration - Becomes accelerated after rolling, increasing movement speed by 25%.
  • Protective Shield - Acquires a shield after rolling, which withstands 20% attack damage.
  • Tactical Reload - Has a chance to immediately recharge Strafing Barrage after rolling.

Cartwheel[]

Cartwheel (側転 sokuten) is a similar action used by MegaMan Volnutt in the Mega Man Legends series to avoid attacks, rolling left or right instead of rolling forward. This special technique is performed by pressing the jump button and the desired direction at the same time.
