Shingo Adachi

Shingo Adachi (足立慎吾 Adachi Shingo, born July 5) is a freelancer animator and character designer from Osaka. He worked on various Mega Man anime as a key animator, and is the character designer for Rockman EXE Beast, Shooting Star Rockman, and Shooting Star Rockman Tribe.

Story[]

Shingo Adachi attended the film school, Osaka University of Arts. After graduating, he tried to become an assistant at a small TV company but the competition was too fierce and he failed to get a job. Adachi also tried Capcom and Konami to no success [1]. It was then his senior, Mitsuru Ishihara [2], recruited him into anime production.

Shingo Adachi joined Xebec, an animation production company, where his first work was on Martian Successor Nadesico. After 10 years of animating and supervising other animators as animation director, Adachi scored his first major role as Character Designer for Rockman EXE Beast+ [3]. He succeeds Mitsuru Ishihara, who did the previous seasons' designs.

Some time later, Adachi left Xebec to go freelance and went on to do more leading animation roles on other series. His famous works include Working!! and Sword Art Online. He made his series director debut with Lycoris Recoil.

Trivia[]

  • Adachi drew for all the Rockman EXE Beast+ DVD covers.
  • Adachi cites the CF Rockman vs Laserman cut from Rockman.EXE Axess as one his highlights from his early career. [4]
  • When adapting the anime design for Shooting Star Rockman, he worked really hard to make them accessible to children. Also when adapting from video games, he tends to simplify by not having many lines or shadows. [5]
  • For Shooting Star Rockman; due the heavy scheduling work on the setting reference images, Adachi was unable to work on animation for the show until after episode 10. [6]
  • Adachi was disappointed in not being able to draw extra promo art for Shooting Star Rockman as the series did not receive a Japanese home release. [7] So for his Shooting Star Story doujinshi, he drew fan art for all the episode he was animation director of (supervisor of other animators' animations).
