Sword and Samurai (剣とサムライ Tsurugi to samurai) is the 18th episode of Rockman.EXE Stream. It aired on February 5, 2005 in Japan[1], and features the debut of Asteroid YamatoMan.EXE.
Plot[]
A series of incidents occur in which swords and spears are stolen from museums and art galleries. The culprit is Asteroid Yamatoman, who materializes at the scene and makes off with whatever he's after. Netto and Raika investigate the incidents, but are unable to discover the true identity of the operator. Raika begins to feel suspicious when he notices that his friend Iriya, who happens to be visiting Japan at the time, has an unusual obsession with traditional Japanese weapons.[1]
Summary[]
At The Ministry of Science, Yuichiro and Meijin monitor Raika and Searchman’s Synchro rate while Raika uses Cross Fusion. Netto tries to brag that he and Rockman could easily attain those Synchro levels, but Rockman points out that it’s impressive because it hasn't been that long since Raika and Searchman started to Cross Fuse. The test comes to an end, meaning that all that’s left is compiling the data collected into a report and Raika can return home to Sharo. Yuichiro offers to grab a bite with Raika, but Raika declines as he explains he has a friend visiting from Sharo.
On his way to meet up with him, Raika reminisces on a fencing match with his friend Iriya, smiling as remembers his victory against him, although he comments that he’d only won against him once. Raika meets Iriya at a museum, looking at swords while Raika asks if Iriya is prepared for his upcoming tournament. While looking at the displays, Iriya expresses his dislike for swords being locked away unused and on display in the museums. Afterwards, Raika calls Netto and invites him to attend the fencing tournament with him so that they can watch together. The two attend together the next day, Netto impressed by Iriya’s skills and Raika praising Iriya’s reputation. However, right after Iriya’s victory Meijin calls Netto to hurry over to the Spring Museum.
Raika tags along with Netto and the two make their way to the crime scene. They discover shattered displays with nothing left inside. Manabe shows them security footage capturing Yamatoman as the thief. Rockman and Searchman check the system where they find it was cut by a sword. While still at the museum, Meijin calls to inform another robbery at a seperate museum. Netto and Raika send their navis ahead. However, unbeknownst to them, Iriya is the one causing the robberies while simultaneously cheating, using a tracking program to identify his opponent’s weak spots. Rockman and Searchman manage to catch Yamatoman returning to the cyberworld after stealing from another museum. Unfortunately, the two are unable to catch Yamatoman as he overpowers them and flees before they can continue the fight. That night after the tournament, Iriya is pleased by the amount of samurai artifacts that he now has in his possession.
The next day the tournament continues and Yamatoman continues to attack more museums. Rockman and Searchman are unable to catch him, but as they follow his trail they stop as Rockman points out if they go any further they’ll end up in another country. However, Searchman suddenly recognizes the route as the route to Sharo. After reporting back to their operators, Raika suddenly remembers some of the things Iriya had said at the museum when they met up two days before. Raika realizes that Iriya is the perpetrator. After being too late yet again, Raika asks Searchman if there’s anymore museums left in the area. Searchman informs them that there’s one more museum left untouched, so Raika tells Netto that they should go there tomorrow.
The third day of the tournament begins and Netto waits at the museum. As Iriya begins his fight he recognizes the stance and movements of his opponent. As he realizes it’s Raika he demands to know what he’s doing there as he wasn’t a contestant. Raika reveals that’s because Iriya is no longer a contestant and Sharo has withdrawn from the competition due to Iriya’s crimes. Meanwhile, Yamatoman arrives at the museum where Rockman is waiting for him. Raika and Iriya continue to fight as Iriya reveals that he already knew what Yamatoman was, but didn’t care because he was promised that he’d get stronger and fulfill his desires. In a moment of weakness, Raika yells that all Iriya’s doing is stealing, leaving himself open and allowing Iriya to take the final jab. Iriya storms off, ignoring Raika as he calls for him to wait. Iriya uses a dimensional chip, bringing Yamatoman into the museum. Raika arrives just in time to assist Netto.
Netto calls for a Dimensional Area and the two Cross Fuse to fight against Yamatoman. However, their attacks are too weak against him. Yamatoman uses the weapons he had stolen and turns them into stronger weapons, overpowering the two even more. Right as Yamatoman is about to kill Raika, Iriya realizes the danger that Raika is in and runs in to shield him. Yamatoman is angered that Iriya tried to stop him, arguing that killing is a part of the nature of battle. Iriya disagrees and that causes Yamatoman to go against him. Iriya and Yamatoman’s argument gave Raika the time to recover and he managed to shield Iriya from Yamatoman’s attack. Raika and Netto are able to work together and delete Yamatoman.
Iriya apologizes to Raika, realizing all the damage he’s done and the danger he’s put everyone in. Afterwards, Raika and Netto leave together, Netto preparing to wish Raika a farewell as he gets ready to return to Sharo. However, as Raika goes to shake Netto’s hand, his palm glows with a bright blue light. Shocked, he pulls off his glove to reveal Duo’s crest. Netto asks if he can see the comet, to which Raika is shocked as he now sees Duo’s comet above them for the first time.
