Tractor Shot (トラクターショット) is an EX Skill for the Buster Shot in Mega Man Zero 4, learned by Zero after defeating Mino Magnus during stormy weather.
When equipped charging and holding up the Buster Shot button will create a Thunder-element green sphere that sticks to the end of the Buster. While the green sphere is active, it will absorb small energy projectiles aimed at Zero with a medium vortex radius, powering it up and causing it to grow in size; with the damage inflicted on enemies dependent on its size.
- Tractor Shot will specifically absorb small yellow energy projectiles fired from a handful of Mechaniloids, such as those of the ArcCannon and C-Hopper.
- It will not absorb other types of projectiles even if they are yellow, such as those of the Reflebeemer.
- It takes 64 shots absorbed for Tractor Shot to reach full potential.
- The green sphere can be used as a pseudo-melee weapon, as Zero can move around with the Tractor Shot held, being able to make contact with enemies without using up the charge. Enemies can be repeatedly damaged and stunned with a held Tractor Shot if Zero moves away from an enemy and back. Zero can also dash through enemies that become stunned in this manner to avoid taking damage.
Due to the unique nature of being a continuously-held action, Tractor Shot possesses anti-synergy with the Auto-Charge Chip. Zero must have his Buster held out as he manually charges the Tractor Shot to have the green sphere properly activate. Otherwise, he will charge up and fire a non-elemental Charge Shot.
- Shooting a single small Buster Shot before charging the Tractor Shot is effectively necessary to avoid shooting non-elemental Charge Shots.
- Charging again immediately after firing a Tractor Shot will also charge a non-elemental Buster Charge Shot, limiting the overall effective fire rate.
- The Quick-Charge Chips can be used to alleviate this low fire rate to an extent.
- Tractor Shot will be fired automatically whenever Zero enters a door or takes damage, as he will holster his weapons, causing the held charge to be retained, but become non-elemental.
Tractor Shot can be used effectively against the Tyrine miniboss in Artificial Sun. While it will not absorb the large projectiles fired by the Tyrine core, it will successfully absorb projectiles fired by the GlassCannons orbiting it. This can be used to safely avoid damage from the spread projectiles and build up a high charge for the Tractor Shot. Once a volley has finished, Zero can approach close enough with Tractor Shot still held and instantly destroy every GlassCannon that touches the green sphere, and then fire the Tractor Shot at Tyrine for significant damage before swapping to other weapons/EX Skills to finish the fight.
It can also be used effectively as an option against Randam Bandam in Teleporter Base. The Particle Shot attack from the side turrets can be easily absorbed by Tractor Shot, and the resulting fully-absorbed charge once Randam Bandam reappears can deal approximately 1/4 of the total health pool.
