- "I want to use my power for something I believe in. That's why I made that promise to my friends, to be the Mega Man that protects them. Mega Man power is strong. Strong enough to change the world. But, there's one thing it can't change... that is our own destiny. You have to use your own power to do that."
- ―Vent to Ashe, Mega Man ZX Advent
Vent (ヴァン Van) is a main character of Mega Man ZX, and the male counterpart of Aile. He is a Humanoid delivery person who joins the Guardians, using Biometals (particularly Model X and Model Z) to protect the world from Mavericks. He is 14 years old in Mega Man ZX, and 18 in Mega Man ZX Advent.[1]
Description[]
Appearance[]
As a youth, Vent has spiky brown hair that is windswept from the front.[2] He wears a zipped-up short-sleeve blue jacket. He wears white pants, has yellow rings on his wrists and boots, and wears small earpieces on either side of his head. Under his clothing is mechanically-enhanced black body.
As an adult, Vent is slightly taller and has grown his hair out considerably, matching the length of Giro's. He wears a similar outfit but with his jacket unzipped, similar to Model ZX, and with one earpiece that has a longer transceiver. He is sometimes drawn with a triangular badge on his jacket too.
Personality[]
Vent is quite kind and determined, but also reckless, hot-headed, and easily volatile. Because of his disposition, he got in trouble more often than not (such as his rapid change in attitude when someone talks about Slither Inc. or when he attacks Prometheus). He also possesses a desire to protect those around him, due to losing his mother right in front of his eyes, always saying, "I'll protect everyone!" or "Give me the power to protect everything!" He had a deep bond with and respect for Giro, calling him "boss" ("Senpai" in the Japanese version), having a sort of mentor-student relationship with him. According to Giro, he was a pain; having grown up as a lonely child, Vent seems to be always rude to the clients. When he is angry, Vent tends to be reckless, such as the time when he launched himself into battle to save the Guardians and Prairie, and at the same time merciless to some point (as is evident when he tells Purprill that, "Now I won't feel bad taking you out!" after learning the latter's role in his losing his parents.); despite this, however, Vent tends to control his actions and ends up maturing with each battle.
History[]
Ten years before Mega Man ZX, Vent went with his mother to the fair, where Mavericks attacked. The Slither Inc. forces repelled them, but Vent's mom was killed. In Vent's story, it is revealed that Purprill was responsible for that Maverick raid. As a result of his mother's death, he hates Slither Inc. and Serpent, stating that feeling that if they had arrived earlier, his mom would still be alive. In reality, they were the ones behind the attack. Girouette found Vent and took him in, eventually employing him in the Giro Express.
Mega Man ZX[]
Vent and Giro are reminiscing upon a cliff before a delivery to the Guardians. They are suddenly attacked by Galleons, whose shots explode Vent's motorcycle and throw him off the cliff with the package. In Area A below, Vent meets Prairie and the Guardians fighting Mavericks. The package, Biometal Model X, suddenly Megamerges with Vent to give him the power to fight Giga Aspis.
Vent works with the Guardians and joins their ranks, using Model X to search for Giro. Shortly after reuniting with him and meeting his Model Z, they head to Area D to stop a Maverick attack. He finds Giro unconscious by Serpent, Prometheus, and Pandora. Serpent uses a Model W to brainwash Giro to attack Vent, forcing him to defend himself. After the battle ends, Serpent finishes Giro off and leaves Galleons to finish Vent. However, he Double Megamerges with Model X and Model Z to form Model ZX, gaining a new power from his late mentor.
Vent and the Guardians investigate Serpent and Slither Inc.'s involvement with Model W, battling eight Pseudoroids and retrieving the fragments of four Biometals along the way. Vent also defends the Guardian Base from an assault led by Prometheus and Pandora. With all the Biometal passwords, Vent unlocks Area M to destroy the Model W core. However, he is stalled by Prometheus and Pandora again while Serpent steals the Model W.
Vent infiltrates Slither Inc. offices to destroy the Model W core, but is too late as Serpent feeds it fearful Cyber-elves. Vent is furious at Serpent, but his long-festering hatred is the last key needed to fully awaken Model W. The Biometals encourage him to fight on anyway, and he challenges Serpent. Upon defeating him, the tower collapses, crushing the Model W core and killing Serpent. Vent then reunites with Prairie and the Guardians, and they vow to continue to protect the world.

Sometime afterwards, Vent handed over Model's H, F, P and L to Fleuve in order to repair them and revealed that they would be taken to a different facility soon to be studied even further. Before Fleuve could even begin however, Sardine cake and asked Fleuve to fix their toy which Vent told Fleuve to focus on first as he left.
Mega Man ZX Advent[]
In the second game, Vent returns as an 18-year-old,[1] now with longer hair, making him bear a strong resemblance to Giro. He appears in Ashe's story, still using Model ZX, destroying Model Ws to end the Game of Destiny. He shows a more calm, calculating attitude, similar to Giro's, although traces of his temper can still be noticed when he gets angry with Ashe, saying "I should finish you off...". However, despite this, his protective attitude is still present.
Vent first appears in the Quarry, fighting Ashe due to a misunderstanding over the Model W core there. Once the misunderstanding is cleared up, Vent begins aiding the Hunter's Guild in their battle against Master Albert, since they share a similar cause. When Ouroboros is formed, Vent summons the Guardians to help besiege it to stop Albert once and for all. Inside Ouroboros, he holds off the four enemy Mega Men to allow Ashe to continue towards Albert.
Vent and Aile also appear together in an image, when Ashe receives the "Chosen Ones" cipher upon Aeolus's defeat, revealing that Master Albert, using his government position, made sure that select individuals who reported to Legion were infused with his DNA.
Powers and abilities[]
As a regular Humanoid, Vent possesses average strength and speed. When not Megamerged, he wields no weapon and cannot Wall Kick or Dash, which are major disadvantages over his Mega Man forms. However, he can crawl through small tunnels and swim on surfaces of water, which is useful in a handful of situations. Vent's crawling speed is slower than Aile's, but he gets knocked back less when struck by an enemy.

Mega Man ZX (manga)[]
Vent is the protagonist of the Mega Man ZX manga. The story opens with a flashback to his mother's death at the hands of Maverick Galleons. In the present, Vent is a deliveryman with Giro Express who must deliver Model X to the Guardians. Vent and Giro are attacked by Mavericks and separated, but Vent runs into Prairie and the Guardians. He uses Model X to protect them from Giga Aspis.
Vent seeks Giro, but is defeated by an Orehawk. When all seems lost, Giro saves him with Model Z. After formally joining the Guardians, Vent follows Giro to stop a Maverick attack, but finds him mind-controlled by Serpent's Model W. Vent snaps Giro out of it by fighting him, but Serpent strikes them both with lightning before departing. Vent reaches out for Model Z, combining into Model ZX to finish the Mavericks, though Giro perishes. Vent faints from exhaustion.
Vent is recovered by the Guardians, makes a friend named Sho, and begins seeking Serpent's plans. He destroys Hivolt the Raptoroid and Lurerre the Abysroid, gaining their Biometals, before Prometheus and Pandora raid Guardian Base in his absence. However, he is delayed as Fistleo the Predatoroid and Hurricaune the Wolveroid gang up on him. Once he destroys them both, Vent rushes to Guardian Base.
The Guardian Base is heavily damaged, and Vent fights against Protectos the Goreroid and Leganchor the Gelroid. However, Sho is held hostage by Purprill the Mandroid, who demands Model H, Model L, and Model F in return for his life. Vent relents, and Purprill equips all the Biometals simultaneously - however, the power is too much, and Purprill explodes. This grants Vent Model P, but the other three Biometals are damaged. He takes them to Fleuve for repairs, where he sees an announcement by Serpent kicking off Project Haven.
Vent goes to stop Serpent's Mavericks. He uses Model P to infiltrate Slither Inc. by following Flammole the Moleroid, then kills him. He also fights Prometheus and Pandora, and Fleuve sends Sho to deliver the repaired three Biometals to Vent.
Serpent uses Model W to fight Vent, nearly defeating him until Sho delivers the Biometals. Vent apparently defeats Serpent with their help, but Model W saps his hatred and uses it to transform Serpent. However, Vent uses the motivation of the Biometals and those he loves to access Model ZX's Overdrive, bisecting Serpent with a giant saber slash.
Archie Comics[]
Vent would later appear in Issue 55 of the Mega Man comic series. Due to a time travel accident in which Dr. Light was involved, he either visited or viewed Vent's time period.
Rockman ZX trailer[]
In the animated Rockman ZX trailer promo, Vent and Aile are shown co-existing and working at Giro Express, acting like siblings. During an Irregular attack on the city, Giro equips Model Z to fight them off but is mortally wounded. Vent and Aile obtain the power of Model X and find a dying Giro who gives them Model Z, and they both become Rockman ZX simultaneously. They take down Protectos the Goreroid and several Galleons before stumbling upon a secret facility. Vent and Aile are then shown utilizing the other Biometals while fighting together.

Etymology[]
- Vent means "Wind" in French.
Trivia[]
- Of the two main protagonists, Vent was designed first, followed by Aile, who was made as his female counterpart. Vent's design was based on the original Mega Man and X.[2]
- Vent's relation to Aile remains a mystery, as the two characters were created merely to give the player a choice between a boy and a girl protagonist. This implies that they do not coexist, but due to the fact that Vent and Aile appear simultaneously in Model A's cipher in Mega Man ZX Advent, it may indicate that both stories actually somehow occur in the same storyline. Additionally, one commercial for ZX shows both Vent and Aile working alongside each other at Giro Express.
- Vent is often the butt of jokes in Mega Man ZX. For example, in the commercial, Aile slaps his back and makes him drop boxes, while on a pre-order mousepad for ZXA Tunes, he is forced to clean while Ashe relaxes and listens to music.
- In the Mega Man ZX manga, Vent is seen taking out a Link PET_EX and a Servbot toy from his pockets.
