W-Shredder (possibly an abbreviation for "Wind Shredder"), known as Hayate (疾風 lit. "Hurricane/Squall") in Japan, is the special technique that Zero learns after defeating Spiral Pegasus in Mega Man X5. When the player presses the Attack Button while Zero is dashing on the ground, he will halt for a moment then send out a red afterimage in front of him. The afterimage itself does not inflict any damage and will disappear after about 3/4ths the distance of a normal dash, but when it makes contact with an enemy, it will pull out an energy saber of its own and perform Shippuuga before disappearing.
W-Shredder is Burn Dinorex's and Dynamo's weakness.

- For Rangda Bangda W's Sun component, since the floor becomes lined with spikes when Zero fights it, he is only allowed to perform a few of his techniques and Saber slashes under normal circumstances. If the player intentionally makes Zero make contact with the Sun component and take damage, however, they can actually use W-Shredder by taking advantage of the temporary invincibility to the spikes before it wears off and gets immediately killed from the spikes thereafter.

Many thought that the Japanese reading for the 疾風 is "Shippuu" in on'yomi due to the previous game where it was read as Shippuu by the means of its parent technique, Shippuuga, and "Shipuu" being the translation used in the English Mega Man X5 manual. But in Rockman X5, it was actually read as "Hayate" according to the furigana. The pronunciation/furigana is from the game manual of Rockman X5.
