Zero is an optional boss from Mega Man X2 that appears in the Central Computer Stage before the final boss.

Zero is only fought if the player failed to recover all of Zero's parts from the X-Hunters in the eight stages, as the Mavericks will repair Zero and force him to fight against X. If all parts are recovered, Dr. Cain will repair Zero and a Fake Zero will appear in his place, but the repaired original will destroy him for the player, skipping to the final boss.

Strategy[]

Zero is one of the most aggressive bosses in Mega Man X2, constantly pursuing the player with a barrage of attacks. If the player is across the arena, he attacks with his ranged Z-Buster and Z-Saber combo. If they stand too close, he strikes them with his dash attack. If they climb the walls or try to jump over Zero, he catches them midair with his Earth Gaizer. He is also able to block any uncharged shots by raising his arms. Zero's weakness in this battle is Speed Burner.

Z-Buster (ゼットバスター Zetto Basutā)[1]
Zero fires a single shot from his Z-Buster.
Damage: 2
Charge Shot (チャージショット Chāji Shotto)[1]
Zero fires two Charge Shots from his Z-Buster, followed by a slash from his Z-Saber that emits a shockwave. The Charge Shots can be canceled out by a Level 2 Charge Shot, but the entire combo can be bypassed by the Second Charge Shot of the Second Armor.
Damage: 4 (projectiles), 3 (slash)
Dash Attack (ダッシュ攻撃 Dasshu Kōgeki)[1]
Zero dashes with his Z-Saber extended, slamming the player into the wall.
Damage: 5
Earth Gaizer (アースゲイザー Āsu Geizā)[1]
Zero punches the floor, launching a wave of debris above himself. On first use, it destroys the computer in the background.
Damage: 2
Guard (ガード Gādo)[1]
Zero guards with his arms, deflecting any uncharged shots the player fires.
Damage: 0

Yamato Man

In the Rockman X2 mobile phone port from Keitai Capcom, both the original Zero and fake Zero appear as secret bosses in Ranking Mode. The black Zero appears in the Counter Hunter room in the Central Computer Stage after completing the game in Free Mode, and the real Zero in the Volcanic Zone Stage after completing the game with all of Zero's parts. Both share the exact same battle strategy, and teleport away after their defeat.[2]
